System Pics 2021

A bit of toe-in may help with reflections too.

I can not understand how someone can get to the level (cost) of that system, yet have no knowledge whatsoever about speaker placement.
I realize there are compromises that have to be made with family, but to me there is no point in owning those speakers if that is where you will ultimately place them.

If you want a systematic approach to speaker set up search for “Sumiko Masterset” on the web. It’s suitable for free space speakers like yours but not so much for those designed to go against the wall like Naim speakers of yore.

Why? Will it definitely sound worse than a cheaper speaker with the same placement?

Even if you have some less than ideal constraints why not go for the best equipment your budget allows.

I don’t think this is about buying a cheaper speaker, it’s about finding a compromise between placement for room aesthetics/convenience and placement for SQ. Most of us have to make a compromise between the two. @hc056744’s speaker placement looks to be optimised for convenience. Even a small shift in speaker placement away from the side wall (and most likely also from the back wall) will likely give a dramatic improvement in SQ.

Because, basically, you’re throwing money away.
Why have a Ferrari if you live and drive only in the country with max 50mph streets?

I have a 180 mph Lotus. I live in a French rural village. I want a Lotus and I’ll damn well have it without your or anyone else’s approval.

Thats why.

Giving advice on how best to make use of something is fine. Telling people what they should and shouldn’t do, or own is not.

Steady Bruss. I think Cardoso was just making a simile here, not directing anything specific or making any judgement of you or anybody else.

As an aside, we probably need to get back to pictures of systems on this thread…

My apologies for any offence caused but I really don’t like attacks on peoples choices after they have made them.
I will be quiet now.

But my point was that that’s true for any speaker, also cheaper ones. So if your constraint is it has to be in that corner, still makes sense to get the best speaker your budget allows.

It’ll still be a very different drive than a Kia, even at 50mph. Just because you stay within the same speed doesn’t mean any car drives alike. I live in a country that has a max speed of 100kmh, any modern car has no issue doing that, somehow I didn’t choose to drive the cheapest car I could find.

I.e. even within the constraints a “better” car/speaker is a better car/speaker.

More pictures please :+1:t2:

@anon29651526 It always amuses me how many expensive supercars you see in places like Hong Kong. Could you ever get out of first gear?! Seems utterly ridiculous to me, but if that’s how people want to spend their money, then so be it. Each to their own.

Sorry for not making myself understood, sir.
I was just trying to say that you could buy whatever, but sometimes it’s not necessary go the extra mile because you have limitations elsewhere.
Anyone who gains hard honest money deserves spend it on whatever. No one’s business.
Thank you.

Not looking to argue, but have you heard of first reflection point?

Yes. Have you read the rest of that line, the bit you omitted from quoting?

My apologies if I targeted you. It was more of a general point. I may just be a little too tetchy this morning.

Outside my window, is a tree (and squirrels)

Enjoying the PMC’s on nearfield duty, the sort of speaker you can have on all day and not notice they’re there.
