System Pics 2021

Love this simple system, those Klipsch Heresy III look stunning and are at the top of my ‘must hear’ list. Are they fine hard up against a wall (I have SBLs)?

the heresy are born to stay close to the walls and especially in the corners, I chose them for this and they work delightfully.

Looks like a nice room for a very fine system. I hope to get a pair of Franco Serblin Accordos for a demo early next year.

Thank you for your detailed answer, Paul. Happy holidays!

Very cool. A speaker that I really want to hear some day too. Voiced by Serblin himself and from what I’ve read about them, they have the similar sonic signature as the old Heritage models like mine.

Not a bad plan so what’s next?

Mtuttleb & I were discussing woodburner pollution. Chamonix even though it is a mountain environment is a particular example where it is a big problem. The valley suffers from an inversion layer so in spite of the fact that there are forested slopes surrounding the town the pollution gets trapped.
The Mont Blanc tunnel has a very large number of trucks passing day and night which are a very large pollution contributor. All in all it is becoming a major health hazard area.

Very sad and the heating effect contributes to the rate at which the glaciers are receding… Looking at old photos of the Mer de Glace is a dramatic lesson.

I know I’ve posted these before but just reposting them as a warning.

I think a few people asked about the AV unit which is an IKEA Besta Tv unit with their own fitted black glass on top to match the glass doors and really helps to smarten it up.

Last week without warning, there was a loud bang as the glass suddenly shattered sending bits all over the place. At first I thought one of powered boxes had blown as it was that loud. Opened all the doors & checked all the boxes and they were all fine - luckily! At this point I still had no idea what had caused it.

Did a bit of searching to find out it’s not an isolated case. IKEA seem to have a problem with some of their glass units but it doesn’t seem to happen often enough for them to do anything about it which is pretty poor. I’m often bending down to open the doors, switch off the sockets behind etc so the thing could’ve exploded in my face.

I’ve no idea what could cause it and IKEA don’t either or don’t think it’s a big deal.

If anyone does buy the unit, just forget about buying the matching glass. I’m going to get something similar to Fraim glass cut at the local glass merchants to use instead. I’ll keep trying to get in touch with IKEA in the meantime.

If the mods feel the need to move this to the padded cell then fair enough but I just wanted to put a warning out there.

Cheers, Rack.

Wow Rack, that’s scary. I’m glad nobody was close.

That could have been very nasty, hope Ikea sort out some compensation.

thats weird does the glass sit within a metal frame or something?

No frame, just the glass.

Too right, could’ve been nasty.

Trying to find a way to contact IKEA from their website is impossible. Plenty of info on where to buy products, etc.

Good job!
That room looks like a loft conversion, are you able to stand up in the middle as the sides look quite low?

That’s scary and totally unacceptable. Was anything playing at the time ?

IKEA must take such an incident seriously.

I had something vaguely similar a couple of years ago when a Velux window imploded with a bang in the middle of the night. They were fantastic and had the window replaced within days - a product recall.

Hope you get it sorted….

There’s lots of companies like that. You search & search for a phone number but nothing, plenty of info of their products etc though. They basically don’t want you to phone them.
Annoys the hell out of me!
Was the glass on the top of the unit?
Hope you manage to get it sorted to your satisfaction.

I had the iPhone connected to the Mac Mini inside it at the time so I wondered if that had set some weird frequency through it but discounted that idea after a bit of searching. Ikea’s response to those who’ve managed to get in touch as been along the lines of 'we’ve tested our products and are satisfied they meet all safety requirements or something like that.

It’s been in place for the last 7 years or more so I’m baffled as to what’s caused it shatter.

I just don’t want anyone else to experience it, especially if they have young children or pets hanging around the unit.

Crickey Rack! That looks horrendous. Thank goodness no one was hurt. Hope you get it sorted with IKEA.
