We once had a larger than usual delivery of 8 by 4 chipboard. So we stacked carefully in its usual place. But obviously a bit too vertically, as later in the day it fell forward and hit the paint stands, which promptly collapsed, spilling literally thousands of litres of paint on the floor! We spent the weekend clearing up, and we even made the local paper. All very embarrassing. We hired a skip for the spoilt cans, so the locals got an awful lot of free paint.
It would be £1,510. Imagine an LP12 and arm for that today. Linnflation is certainly faster than CPI!
Agreed. I have some old active monitors on my office desk, sat on some cheap foam isolation pads, which in turn sit on a row of bricks. Does the job nicely!
These are the isolation pads - cheap as chips!

Thanks for the reply. The tiles sound straightforward to fit - I might investigate.
Ref the 140s, to me they seem oddly overlooked. I haven’t heard them but they seem to offer more than some of their price rivals. The one thing that does seem strange is they are only quoted down to 60hz - surely that can’t be right on a speaker of their size and with that many drivers? Even my little Mission 731is on my desk played pretty loudly down to a surprising 45hz when I ran a REW frequency sweep - the official spec was more quite a bit higher. Perhaps Linn are very conservative with their specifications?
Whatever they may be, the whole set-up looks very nice in your room with the art work and one of Paul’s equipment racks.
I was also 23 in 1984 and my system was a humble Rega Planar 3 / RB300 / Nagaoka MP50 into A&R Cambridge A60 and Harbeth HL Monitor Mk. IIIs…
Music and high fidelity as lifetime passions.

Not so humble Claude; in 1984 that was some great kit!
I was just thinking the the same, Bruss. I’ve been doing some light dusting and thought I’d post another picture while the system’s looking vaguely dust free.
Yes, there’s a few around, in my case ESL2912 purchased in 2019 and loving them…
Back to the thread title.
Only change vs same time last year is an LP12 upgrade (from Kore to Keel and from Akito 2B to Ekos SE). No further upgrade planned this year, unless I decide to add Karousel to the LP12.

A dedicated room!
Lucky guy. Very nice
Thanks FR. That may change in the near future, as we plan to move to a smaller house in the Eastern Townships in 2-3 years. But for now I enjoy every minute.
Claude
What’s the other system to the right of the picture Claude ?
The speakers may still be good for a smaller room…I hope for you at least.
Just for fun I rebuilt the 1970’s Pioneer system I had at age 16 (PL 112D, Sa 7500II, TX 5500II, CT-F500, HPM 60s). I still use it from time to time to play rock and blues, it has lots of punch and it sounds surprisingly well.
Claude
So do I. If not, I’m quite certain I’ll get a few suggestions from fellow Forum members when the time comes

I know two people who, back in the 80’s, had Pioneer HPM 150’s. Both setups sounded awesome, especially with rock music on Vinyl.
Lovely room! And do go for the Karousel - it’s a very worthwhile improvement (for relatively little money).
How large is that room? Looks to be a pretty good size.
It roughly 16 x 24, it was designed to a dedicated listening room. Walls and ceiling have double sheets and are insulated with acoustic foam.
