Brilliant idea!
Future business opportunity there? @Richard.Dane might be able to provide you with cassette deck carcasses? (runs for cover).
Nice work - that’s really good
Although I’m still a bit conflicted here, that looks like a great fun project, well executed. Do the keys correspond to their functions (Record excepted, of course)?
I understand your feelings Richard, I share much of that sentiment, I love to fix things, often to my family’s irritation as they are usually looking for an excuse for a ‘new thing-a-ma-bob’.
Yes, the keys perform rew/stop/play/ff/pause, plus an extra one, REC skips to the next track.
Removed the cassette mech, installed an raspberry pi plus screen running Picore player. The rest was a fair bit of sawing, filing and soldering! :0)
Brilliant!
Utmost respect
Very clever and well executed.
Great job, looks superb.
Top draw looks excellent
That looks great
Did I read that you bought a DAC to run the VU meters too?
I did, I posted an image of it in the ‘what have you bought?’ Thread.
It has coax and optical SPDIF inputs and RCA line out & 3.5mm headphone out it cost just shy of £9. The DAC needs a 5V micro USB supply, the line out feeds the original on board VU meter drivers, I could connect the DAC head phone out to the 1/4” headphone jack on the Sony face plate.
Absolutely brilliant.
There’s a seller on Ebay IIRC who’s been sellings these modded cassette decks for some years.
Very clever
I have at no time given any consideration to going for a steaming device, preferring good old vinyl. This…I would consider!
How many hours work have you invested in this Roog?
CE marking, or lack of, would be a worry for me. It is a concern that these hifi boxes might start piling up at home as I have no easy market for them.
Credit for the idea came from a friend and colleague, the idea of a vintage look really appealed to me.
As for hours ‘invested’ I’m not sure, there have been periods of intense activity in between work! And lulls at other times. The project was meant as therapy for me so I wasn’t counting.
Nice job, i see you did a detailed post elsewhere.
Great project.
Yes I have lots of photos. I posted here because I have frequented this place for a fair while and because much of my gear is Naim. I may put together a dedicated thread if I Can find a moment.
