System Pics 2022

Hi Pete, you didn’t shared about your new turntable, or I have not read it yet. How sounds your Dual ?

Funny I just did a quick tally on how much my main system cost me, so far (and I’m hoping Mrs Pete isn’t looking at this) it’s around $70ks. That’s without my Muso and Atom.

Hi Mr Roster hope you’re well and survived the heat. I’ve only got 4 albums so my experience is limited right now but I am enjoying it. Tomorrow I’m doing a comparison between a new remastered copy (vinyl) and a hi res copy (file) of Dark Side of the Moon. That’ll give me something to think about although I’m not sure if using $20k worth of streamer/dac against $1k turntable is a fair test.

Agree , best to get a Linn LP12 and then do comparison ha :+1:

Tell you something that I was ready for half a CD and then having to get up and physically play the second half. Bit of a shock.

Couple of new additions… 82 and matching hi cap to replace the 202. The hi caps been DR’d… just connected it all up to make sure it survived transporting it ok so forgive the cable nest! Just need to keep an eye out for a matching 250 to replace the 155xs and that might be me paused for a while…

Interesting. There’s only a few of those out in the wild :sunglasses:

Yeah never seen one until now. The upgrade was done by the distributor here in NZ.

Thanks Pete, we survived the heat. Today we are breathing again :hugs:
As you said, unfair comparaison. But if it’s not so big in the listening result, then you will have some insights.

Just keep in mind that it’s likely that they’ve been mastered differently, so differences heard might not necessarily reflect the format/source.

My first proper speakers were mission 700s, the 770 was the aspirational model at the time, one I’ve never heard but I still think fondly of those old mission. They lasted me over 20 years with a couple of driver replacements and saw off some Royd Doublets towards the end of that period but by then I’d made my own crossovers and modified the internal damping, which livened them up a bit and the cost of a bit more colouration.

The new 770 look interesting and I’d like to hear them, my current speakers are Ryods Priors that have served me well for almost 25 years.

Careful; you might end up with a case of Royd rage.

So…quick back ground to this set-up. The speakers sitting unceremoniously on the back of the sofa belong to a friends dad who sadly recently passed. My friend asked if I would like them as he was going to put them in the skip. Turns out the rather uninviting cabinets house tannoy 15 inch dual concentric red drivers and original cross overs. Anyway, as they are actually very valuable, they are going back to my friend, but I have loan of them for a while…so, just while the wife is out! We have 80’s naim electronics, with a 70’s Sony source (TC-177SD) and 60’s tannoy speakers…if the roulette wheel stopped on this set-up and I would only have this set-up to listen to for eternity, I would be delighted!

A good move rescuing those Tannoys :raised_hands:

Yes, my friend was rather happy when I let him know they are worth a few bob…

I first heard the original 770s in Holborn, London with some red Electrocompaniet amplifiers and (I think) a Pink Triangle turntable. I remember being quite impressed by the sound of that system. Then of course I discovered Linn and Naim… :smirk:…things have never been the same since.
Would like to hear the new Missions though.
