Xmas greetings
All the best to everybody out there. Hope Santa, brings your HiFi wishes.
So far not but then again I don’t have any. I already have the perfect hifi system
Today was the day for my twice yearly full Fraim cleanup and rebuild. All the dust and dirt is gone, shelf hardware given a little tighten where needed, and back together with cable dressing as good as I can get it.
I swapped the positions of the 252 and Superline. I don’t know that it makes any difference sonically, but I think I like it better.
Prime rib is in the smoker, Bourbon County “Sir Issac’s” Stout In the glass, new Jay Jay Johnson Blue Note Classics reissue on the turntable. Life is good.
Yeah, that does sound pretty good indeed. Have fun
The kit on Fraim looks so much better with standard shelves and no spaces. I have added space around my boxes with medium and empty shelves but it doesn’t look so good, yours just looks right. I think the empty top shelf on the right finishes it off nicely.
I think a lot of people use medium and empty shelves in the obsession to get every last bit of cable completely off the floor. I have a few burndies on the floor. Can’t be avoided, but I really like how it turns out. I have some medium stanchions as spares and used those previously to make sure no cables touched the floor, but I honestly didn’t notice the difference, and didn’t like the look, so I went with what looks smart. It’s all full fat Fraim, except for the two Fraimlite shelves to finish off the top on the right, and to support the TT platform on the left.
That’s a nice wine stand, must get one!!
Merry Christmas.

…and it can even swivel the glass Merry Christmas to you too Peter
All the best to you too Gazz and hopefully 2023 will smile upon us Peter
Careful with that wine glass Peter…….it kind of reminds me of being careful around those Chord amps with the perforated steel cover plates😬
Merry Christmas everyone. I wish you all the best for 2023.
Yesterday I had a glorious few uninterrupted hours listening to music on the main system - bliss!
Below is an update on my open baffle experiment:
- A frame/bracing/closed cell foam added to the rear of each baffle - much less resonant.
- made a plinth to tilt each speaker backwards - certainly helps SQ
- two actively driven bass modules (the grey items) that I made previously - seem to really fill in the 80hz - 200 Hz low point in the FR, resulting in a warmer, more full sound.

Going through some old photos and found a very, very early ‘system’ picture. Probably taken around 1978 with the speakers from my first stereo. Always happiest when taking things apart to see what was inside…
10 years later, I was very lucky to have a Linn LP12 quickly followed by my first introduction to Naim with a CB 42.5 and 140.
Great picture.
Never understood the need for the LP12 set up jig…
…or locking tonearm rests…
Gone.
