Lovely looking room and set up.
Few beers, music and a chilled out dog, this is Ziggy, Poppy is asleep upstairs somewhere.
Oh…the 552DR is settling in very nicely what a pre it’s way beyond my expectations, grip, bass, detail and control over the 300/SL2s, hard to describe.
Wasn’t planning on a 555 for nDacTBH. Just thought it’d be nice to have another source to choose from when I’m feeling too lazy to even put a CD on. I had spare highline and few Powerlines doing nothing so thought it was time to get some use out of them.
First impressions are very good though but now need to sort a more recent Mac mini.
Ahhhh yes. The tuner. Amazing sound for a 36-year old unit. There are even still some good FM stations (including a city-owned classical station) where I live. Thanks for the comment, Ian!
I like the contrast that the new cherry base tint contrasts with the old tint shelves
Those Focals look great in that room.
Thanks. The two bottom levels on both bases were originally maple I applied a cherry stain, not perfect and I may go over them again in the future.
Do you mean Arcam FMJ A-30? I’m pretty sure such a machine doesn’t exist. A18, 19, 22, 28, 29, 32, 38, 39 and 49 yes but not A30. There is of course the HDA range SA30 with 120wpc into 8ohms/220wpc into 4 and Dirac Live built in. The JBL SA750 is effectively this amplifier in a more expensive, fancier suit.
Fabulous. That’s my favorite Classic system on the Forum. Bet it’s amazing.
You’re right, too many numbers. It’s an A19 which now sits in my home office, driving a pair of B&W 685 S2 bookshelf speakers.
Thank you for the clarification and it makes sense. I have an A18 (predecessor of the A19). I tried it with my main Tannoy floorstanders (6ohm impedance) in our 6.5m x 3.3m lounge and though clear and with good tone + a quiet noise floor, it was a little flat; lacking in punch, drive, engagement and outright loudness. An upgrade to an A28 made a big difference. However, I now use the A18 in my office with Tannoy Revolution Signature DC4T small floorstanders (8 ohm nominal) and it has plenty of drive and excitement and matches really well with those speakers in that room. AFAIK the A19 was voiced to be a more ‘lively’ replacement.
At 80 WPC your Nova, as well as being a great streamer, will be more at ease with driving more demanding speakers in a larger room than the A19 would mange. It looks a nice set-up.
Thanks for your kind post
If you ever visit East Yorkshire (I serve Yorkshire tea) you are welcome to have a listen.
Looking good and growing nicely
I have just swapped my SCM11 for SCM40.
SQ has gone from really good to sublime, I have a bit more bass and the mid’s have great clarity and detail.
Thanks James. It’s taken over 20 years with downgrades in between.
Few milestones along the way acquiring SL2s a few years ago to a nicely serviced 300. The Dave / MScaler made me go through the 282, 252 fairly quickly as each step the Dave just gave more and now the 552DR I think the journey is complete.
The arcam is fine with the B&W bookshelves, but obviously the Nova / Kanta combination is in a different league.
The Nova is in our open living room / kitchen, which measures 16 x 6 meters with a pointed(?) roof of 6 meters high. So some power is needed, but also consideration towards neighbours on the floor below us.
I like the scm40s in white.
Me too. The SCM40 grilles on wooden speakers look a bit daft. On the white ones, they look quite classy
I thought I would give them a try and like them.
