God, you went to a posh school - lol. We could only dream of Spam fritters for lunch. We were lucky if we got a lump of coal
I think a lump of coal would have been preferable to unsalted mounds of mashed potatoes with black bits in them, gammon and pease pudding that we were given on occasion.
At least I could take the coal home for the central heating. Fortunately, our human dustbin at the dinner table,Billy, would usually eat anything anyone did not want.
Post exams, in that period when school attendance wasn’t obligatory (‘just do something useful’), I was tasked with recording Shakespeare plays (Paul Scofleld et al) from vinyl albums on to cassette tapes, using my dad’s music centre (Sanyo IIRC).
I’m not 100% sure I got all the acts in order though
@Gazza - Spam fritters were luxury items! More like over-baked bullet-proof beef cobbler (primarily the beef gristle) in my dinner hall.
you made me remember that I also bought my 1st audio equipment saving with meals and school trips
Ae they for real? I ask because their website is terrible and slapdash, full of Greek and they mark their shop as being in Indonesia… a bit difficult to trust one’s valuable gear to what looks like a bunch of amateurs…
@NoNaim – that looks like a Ferguson Studio 6 music centre – may parents had one when I were a lad…
You are correct. They do not make them like that anymore. I should know, I had it in bits more times than I could remember, fixing or adjusting something
It’s good to read your assessment, Kev, as I’d made an enquiry yesterday about having them look at my Pioneer CT-S830S. I think I’ll have to look elsewhere. The only issue is: where? Have you had your Dragon serviced? Is there anywhere you can recommend?
I had it done at B&W about five years ago, just before they stopped servicing Naks…
Lucky you! I think I’ll start a separate thread.
I used to have that exact Panasonic model in the very early 80s! It replaced my ITT KA1026 record player.
Then “progressed” to an Aiwa Midi system with CD player around 1985, then my first Naim Cd player in the early 90s with an Audiolab amp and Linn speakers.
To be fair, at each stage, I still really enjoyed the music, which I guess is what’s really important.
Have you seen Otway: The Movie on Netflix. Absolutely hilarious.
Whats the naim of these levels?
Edit, Isoblue ( i guess)
Lumps of coal……luxury!
……and you think you had it rough………
And you try and tell the young people of today that … they won’t believe you
Yes, they are Isoblue
Yes, music centres are as dead as a Norwegian Blue. However, that’s another story (sketch)
I’m a happy customer. I was also a bit dubious but Raam is very communicative.
They returned the old parts that were replaced for new so I could see them and they also included step by step pics of the repair on a memory stick.
The work was completed within a week.
Not cheap, but my deck is now working like new. There’s quite a few positive shout outs on the Tapeheads forum for them too
No I haven’t, its the first I have heard of it. I’ll have a look at it over the weekend.
