I’d try SBLs there

Superb Basement Loudspeaker

I switched to Gold Badge Q7:s a few weeks ago and I’m extremely happy with them. They are SBL-fast!! I have a pair of old (more like ancient) Rogers LS3/5a - they are exceptional within their range. But the Gold Badge Q7 are more all-round. They are nicer with Wagner or Mahler and any dynamic music and they still keep quite a bit of that LS3/5a sound.

Your stands looks like a nice fit - who makes them?

It will probably be the superb basement speaker version 2
The place has been swarming with builders today and we have a new project to bring it to the finished stage. I am so glad I insisted on a perfectly insulated basement that will add 25m2 of living space

Good to hear they compare favourably to the original LS3/5a versions because as I said I’ve never heard any of those versions. I got a good deal on these from the original owner and they were practically new. The stands are designed for the P3ESR but also work great for the Falcons. They are Skylan SP-27’s and are made here in Canada.

If I knock on the cabinets the LS3/5a is a bit brighter. And the extra air in the Q7 is probably what give them a bit more dynamics. That is about the difference I can hear.

Great, Skylans are available here in Sweden, I’ll check them out.

Nothing like a bit of subterranean bass

That is a good question. They are nice speakers no doubt and do many things very well.
Bass is very limited in my opinion, so using them with a subwoofer. But for this size you cannot except wonders. They also have a quite a narrow dispersion so the center image is only kept in the sweet spot, which is frankly quite narrow with these speakers.

Interestingly for a Harbeth speaker they tend to get a bit bright with some recordings. This is fine for me but i can understand that some people will prefer the non XD versions.

I will need to swap them for the ProAc Tab 10 to get a grasp of which one is a keeper.

In my experience, Harbeth are fully capable of being bright, even non-XD. Depends on partnering equipment and especially recording, but they won’t hide a hot recording for sure, they are very revealing. What they don’t tend to have is artificially tipped up treble response.

Hi

May I ask the name of the unit you have your equipment on please ?

Hi Duffster
I’ve had the unit for about 15 years and when checking the website it looks like they no longer make it but it’s from a company called BDI. They make some pretty nice stuff these days but it’s not cheap!

Hmmm - not many pictures recently?
Finally pulled the plug : arrived yesterday

I have never listened to any of the Naim streamers. I think I was put off with the start when they launched their first ones. Who knows maybe one day with the new series 300. Hope you enjoy it
