System Pics 2023

Very interesting… active ATC speakers with proper balanced output from the 222. Tell us more.

Great picture of your 222, 300 NPX with active SCM40A speakers. Thats all the system you’ll ever need!. Love the tasteful room decor as well.

Having proper, balanced, outputs seems to be the way forward.

I use Canford transformers for my 40’s from the Supercap. Originally, I used the XLR outputs from my streamer during my home trial.

Makes you wonder if there may be an active Focal somewhere down the line.

Nice looking system!

Thanks for the positive comments and to answer some questions:

Straight swap for my previous 272/555. Like many I had been waiting to see what new pre/streamer Naim introduced but had no real urge to change. However tried a home demo, was suitably impressed and received generous part ex deal from my dealer (big shout out to Acoustica at Chester).

Early days, but sounding great with the active ATC’s (the visual match is even more impressive in the flesh!). Looking forward to the sound improvements as everything ‘beds in’ over the next few weeks.

That’s a very compelling setup and on my list for a future boxcount downsize. Makes a Fraim more affordable at the same time.

Just loving the simplicity of your setup, HH. Very cool!

Thanks, that’s very nice of you. Despite having owned large setups over the years, it’s the small ones that have consistently looked best to me, particularly those owned by @Alco over many years. @PaulW ’s system with the 222 and the active ATCs is a very compelling way to get great sound without the boxes taking over the house.

Speaking of boxes, we have agreed that the grilles remain on the PMCs so that they are more discreet. However, when removed, they reveal some nice detail. I’m not one for bling, but I do really like the shiny surround to the bass unit, and the texture on the cone. They do seem very nicely made, and a step above some speakers in terms of finishing.

Trying out the P3ESR XD instead of the ProAc Tab 10 Sig.

They are a step above in finish (this is the olive ash variant) - as for the sound, no conclusion yep

That’s a very very nice looking loudspeaker.

Can you specify which ones? I cannot make head nor tail out of their website! Have you compared using those vs connecting directly to the SC? It would be interesting to know if they sound different. ATC seem to be vable/transformer sceptics and said just used the cheapest simplest cable setup.

Looks lush :hugs: Enjoy Peter

Ok. I got a 4-pin Din to 2 phono made up, this feeds Canford’s RDL TX-AFC1M UNBAL-BAL transformers, RCA in to XLR out.

My r/h speaker is a fair distance from the Supercap, so I have 2×5metre XLR’s to equalise cable length.

@SimoninSuffolk who used to post on here used them, and I managed to work out from his posts what to get.

I didn’t attempt to connect the Supercap using any other method. The Supercap does not present a balanced output, so whilst usable as I understand it with very short cable runs, I used the method described above for a proper balanced XLR run with no problems.

Hi Endon,

If you don’t want to use a sticker, you can wad up a small piece of cotton or wool and put it in the “hole” from which the Radikal Laser is shot out. I did this until I got the Radikal 2, which dimmed the LED considerably.

Thanks Joe- sounds like a plan- will do that later tonight. Cheers

Just curious, H. That must be a huge drop in SQ compared to your previous multi-boxed setup.

Are you saying you’re no longer concerned with audio quality but now you’re more interested in how the setup looks?

If that’s the case, why stick with NAIM? Other comanies do prettier boxes…

The best looking setup I’ve seen in a long time.

No, I didn’t find a huge drop in SQ. The setup I have now works much better for me in terms of enjoyment, possibly because of the speakers working better in the room, which more than offsets any reductions due to lesser electronics. The Nova is very good indeed, provided it’s matched with the right speakers.

The stereo is in our living room so yes, looks are important, but I’d never have something that looks good but sounds rubbish.

The Nova/22i was a cracking combo for me. I could comfortably make a case for going back to it.
The Nova for me is the best pound for pound box in the range.
