System Pics 2026

Electricians are supposed to install wiring to comply with regulations, which are strict, albeit open to interpretation in some respects. Doing something just because their client, without training or qualification, asks for it, isn’t going to wash. There are plenty of ways in which dedicated HiFi installations could be deemed non-compliant, especially when dealing with 10mm cables connected to terminals that weren’t designed to take them and squeezing them into a back box that isn’t really deep enough. The terminals in an MK or Furutech wall socket may just about have space for 10mm cables, but the manufacturers spec will say less (in the case of Furutech they specify up to 5.5mm) so you are asking for equipment to be installed outside of the manufacturers specification. An electrician would be personally liable for the performance of any equipment they install outside of manufacturers specifications, and it’s up to them whether or not they are prepared to take that risk.

A sparky who argues that they think your request is pointless is far better than one who is also an audiophile and really gung ho.

When we built a house, the electrician, from a major engineering company, was a huge audiophile and I had given my requirements and asked them to make adjustments necessary to anything that wasn’t up to code. Instead they ran with it and came back with this totally over the top plan for ultimate fidelity and isolation that was 250% over budget and delayed the whole completion because they had to go back and do what I asked for.

I’d have loved your typical “this is nonsense” sparky.

Thank you for this response, it will disappoint the amateur electricians out there, but prevent house fires.

Using a 47mm knockout box or a 47mm drywall box leaves plenty of room for 10mm cable. After all, the 47mm boxes are designed for cooker switches.

Hello Adam, Yes I have changed them slightly, now 123mm apart on inside edges, and 25mm and 24 mm from the rear wall. Can I tell the difference, yes I can the sound seems “fuller” more together and not as if it is coming from two separate points as it perhaps did before. No other change.

They are still a tight fit, and a very tight fit if you need to get two lots of 10mm T&E in them.

Thanks for reminding everyone this is the System Pics 2026 thread!

My stash were from the late 90s. Still wrapped too. No issues issuing these to my electrian to fit. You can get those cable screws nice and tight.

Cheers Ian, the new Eversolo is a nice visual blend with the Nait 50 and really pleased I broke with my own tradition on the speakers and went with the white.

And another one for you.

What is it? A miniature guillotine?

I might be wrong about this, but I vaguely remember someone (JV?) saying that generally one should not mix metal interfaces, so steel to steel or gold to gold but not gold to steel/silver etc.

I am sure there was a terribly good reason why not, which escapes me.

… and why 2 cd spinners?

Yes of course it is. Also doubles as a light.

Well why not? Just a bit of choice to be honest, I got a good deal on the ex demo Rega Saturn a few years ago, it was too good to turn down. I rather like having the two.

Ah - the CD is Merl Saunders and Jerry Garcia - I knew I recognised the design, but it’s one of the inner sleeves, not the cover of the box. I should give that a listen as I haven’t done so recently.

Hi Clive B - To avoid the usual moans and grumbles about content will reply in the correct forum a bit later, Cheers.

Trying Accuphase gear here , had the E-700 class a integrated for 12 days , now trying the E-4000 a/b integrated .
