System Pics 2026

…but then again, why have just two boxes when three will obviously sound so much better?

Nice view (and system)!

Looking good @MilesF. How you getting on with the Prodigy 1’s, they are on my long list :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve had same thoughts moving 555PS up but came to the conclusion that a huge transformer inside the 555PS close to a sensitive DAC is likely worse than Burndy with DC touching the floor. I have no proof of this so it is just my own speculation based on some electronics knowledge. Always compromises to be made with Naim. It is nearly impossible to follow all guidelines at the same time if you don’t build a Frankenstein system.

They haven’t disappointed, though despite being similarly sized to the Spendor SA1’s I had before they offer something different.

The Spendors were all about fine detail and laser-sharp imaging - which I miss to some extent - but these PMC’s can rock out. They’re more fun, even genuinely exciting at times. They also do rather better in the bass dept - I’m running one little REL sub now instead of two, with both crossover and volume sharply reduced from the Spendor settings.

Worth a listen then, definitely, I’d say. Especially if you’re using them in a smallish room.

Nice Habitat Tech Trolley. A classic.

Slight rearrangement, now one 500 burndy touches the floor, another level will sort this. May look for a Fraimlite in cherry and do the same as the left base

or sell the lot and go active

Ha! Well spotted Mick, Habitat 1989 vintage to be exact.

Bought with my first proper monthly salary cheque to house my NAD 3020 amp, Sansui SR222 turntable and a TEAC cassette deck, the exact model of which escapes me.

Still looks the part but truth be told it’s not the sturdiest of platforms. Thinking of taking the wheels off to give a little more rigidity, but ‘audiophile grade’ it most certainly is not.

@milesF I still have a pair of two shelf trolleys. Must have bought them in the mid 80s. For a while I had a 42.5 and HiCap on the top shelf and my screw case 250 below. I found placing the electronics on MDF shelves sitting on four small spacers helped with the metal shelves on the trolleys vibrating. Things move on, and the Tech trolleys now house the grandkids Duplo and Lego:grinning_face:

Why the change? Looked nice before.

I thought it did too :slightly_smiling_face:

This is an experiment, the jury is still out.

Good system, welcome to the forum

It’s a friendly place with a lot of good info

Best wishes

Main System now has Rega P10/Hana ML replacing Well Tempered Amadeus GT and Proac D20r speakers. Sounding awesome!

Upstairs systems are Music Hall MM-F 2.2 with Goldring Epic 2. Rega Brio 3, Rega Apollo and an old Pioneer Tuner. Thiel 1.5 Speakers. The Goldring is the first cartridge I ever bought back around 1990 and I managed recently to get my hands on two nos styli. Sounds great still. The Brio 3 is an incredible wee amp and handles the Thiels with ease in this small space. Just need an appropriate speaker cable here to finalise things.

Second upstairs system is Quad based with a 606 power amp, Elite Pre and CDP, Bluesound Nano, Rega Ear and Proac Tablet 10’s on REL Sound stands. What I love about the old Quad sound is its swing. Geez can it swing! The Elite CDP is pretty special too.

Absolutely wonderful setup there. Love your 606s which I know work so well with Naim.

May I ask what speaker cables you are using now, or have used previously on the 606s?

Thanks:+1:

It looks unbalanced at the moment. But it is good to try different racking positions to see how you get on. I have a range of different sized legs and bits. Currently I have 2 racks but may go back to 3 for better separation.

The extra shelves and medium legs are worth experimenting with as well as large legs.

You may find 2 sets of medium legs on thw right stack works well.

I like the 500 head unit with large legs for shelf above, to give some air.

Left stack works. So if I was you for right stack I would get an extra shelf and then try medium legs for two shelves and also try longer legs for one shelf.

It’s about sound quality and aesthetics.

I completely agree, Dan. Ive placed a bid on two Fraimlite (FL) levels, right shade too. The plan (if I win the bid) is to use one FL on the right base to match the left stack leaving this empty.

Right stack from the top

Pulsar, Empty FL, 500PS, 500PS, Empty Base

Left stack from the top

DAVE, 552DR, 500DR, Empty Base

Both stacks will then be at the same hight :slightly_smiling_face:

two levels above the 500PSUs, empty FL,

You may not like the big gap above a FL height shelf on the PS. To me, it looked wrong.

But you may want the shelves to line up which you won’t get with 2 ML height legs.

You have to work it out yourself. I played around quite a bit with 3 stacks. Still got the kit and may well do it again…

You could go back as you were, which looks better (IMO), but place the 500PS above the 552PS and let the Burndies cross. This is in effect what I do, although in my case these power supplies are separated by two 555PS units.
