The dilemma of physical v virtual media

Sure, it is a very personal choice there is no right or wrong answer. For me, I rarely only play part of an album. I like to listen to the whole body of work. A good well thought out album all comes together for a better experience than just a sequence of tracks.

I do make exceptions for triple LPs as I have not heard many that could not have been made better with some editing and at least cut them to a double.

As the saying goes “The trouble with Digital music is there is no groove!”

…sorry.

That Dunjana album was really great. I think I came across it because you noted it in the “what are you listening to …” thread. Thank you, never would have found it otherwise! An argument for digital, which permitted that discovery.

Something to ponder. A very long essay but very good indeed. I’m sure a certain sort of person would read this as making the case for analogue whereas it does no such thing,

With digital I can buy albums via download, from anywhere in the world, which is pretty liberating. (The postal costs of physical media are often excessive). This forum is a pretty good place to learn about albums.

Glad you enjoyed it.

I have been involved with this question recently.

I was the photographer for one of Italy’s leading Opera houses in the nineties. They have recently acquired my negatives for their archives. They will be stored in an air conditioned basement in archival sleeves.

In some ways it is easier to have a physical object that can be scanned, easier than perhaps digital RAW file archiving.

They are scanning my prints. I guess they have the best of both worlds.
