The Doors

I always reckoned he could have done a Gaugin, off to some small Pacific islands…

A nice thought, but he won’t be coming back. Sadly.

His love and knowledge of Rimbaud means one could imagine…after all: “D’you remember when we were in Africa?”

But I agree, Mr Mojo Risin’ is not coming back. Much as I could wish he’d appear with new works as good or better than Notes… The Lords, New Creatures or Wilderness…but please, not Ode To My C@ck!

RIP, JDM.

Got me wondering after my visit to Pere Lachaise today - how did Jim get to be buried there.

I found this article by Michael Christopher in UCR very interesting. Like all great conspiracy theories there are a lot of loose ends.

Yep, a lot.
Jim’s ending was almost built for conspiracy theories. Or was it just human error and misjudgements. We’ll never know I suspect.
The person I always felt sorriest for was not Ray, John or Robbie or members of Jim’s family.
It was Pamela.

There’s a good book about Jim and Pam by Patricia Butler: nice pic of the Themis days:

Looking for some advice.
For some odd reason I don’t have L.A. Woman on vinyl and I can pick up a 2021 pressing for a reasonable price. Does anyone have any experience of the SQ of the pressing?

@GraemeBC

SQ should be fine. Does it have the gold hype sticker (if a sealed copy) and the original ‘window’ cover? If so, it’s the same remaster as the 50th box.
Sounds great.

Thanks for that, just following up with the store now.

I’m listening to ‘The Doors" over my iPhone at the moment, and I was thrilled to hear that Elektra have reinstated the ‘She gets high’ lyric’ that was actually recorded. Every time until now, for over 50 years, it has been ‘She gets …’ I hope to goodness that that’s on the new LP that I ordered recently, but not yet heard.

Listeners being treated as adults! Whatever next?

What a fabulous record it is. Robby Krieger’s guitar solo on the ‘long version’ of ‘Light My Fire’ is as spectacularly good as ever. Not many guitar solos on Doors records!

I prefer the mix without the “high”… it was the only mix we’d heard for decades. Grew up with it.
Good to have both though.
Not all newer copies have the “uncensored” mix. AP for example have the old mix. The 40th (Elektra/Rhino) anniversary editions are the new. Can’t remember offhand what other releases feature the remixes. Perception? I’d have to look when home.

Same as LA Woman with the different & longer introduction.

Lol, when Jim Ladd says high was the equivalent of the F word and therefore out of bounds, seeing as The End featured…the F word!

Don’t think they figured on getting much airplay for The End

Thanks for posting that, it’s fascinating to hear them talk.

Not long now…

Seeing as this has made the light of day, will Palace In The Canyon be along soon?..
Soon in Doors terms = you cannot petition or know!

It would have been fascinating to be there and get to know them, but I would have been about ten years old.

You and me both, more or less.
Ray’s induction film below was 1965 so I’d have been 11.

Interesting interview with Vince Treanor (Doors Road Manager for a long while) on a site called ‘popexpresso’. Search Vince Treanor: The Man Behind The Doors. I don’t know what popexpresso is, think it’s just news but won’t link it to be on the safe side of Forum rules.

Vince’s book should be here soon. An interesting read, I hope.

Well, finally got my hands on a copy and yes it’s the 50th anniversary version and I must say it sounds very good indeed. And at a surprisingly reasonable price ($32CDN which is only about £20)

@GraemeBC

Good! Pleased you like it.
I thought the 50th Anniversary releases sounded great on the whole.

Great presentation in the boxsets too, apart from the woefully weak way Strange Days was packaged…

Correct speed, apparently the released one is slightly fast (but still looking forward to my copy, winging its way from Germany).
Reminds me of the old Light My Fire speed discrepancy! Lol.

And a home movie from Corsica - for a film student, Jim seems to have problems with macro-focus! Maybe those old Super 8s couldn’t be manually focused?
