A fabulous album on the River Lea label.
River Lea is a record label run by Geoff Travis & Jeannette Lee of Rough Trade along with music journalist Tim Chipping.
Just listened to both these ECM albums which I like very much. Sax and piano are a good fit for June Tabor’s voice. Lovely!
At the Wood’s Heart Topic 2005 has a couple of tracks on which Iain Ballamy plays, Mark Lockheart plays sax as well and of course Huw Warren on piano.
While ECM is mostly known for jazz and ECM New Series for contemporary classical music, I was curious about what might be folk inflected in their catalogue. The Danish String Quartet recorded Keel Road in 2024.
DSQ are violinists Rune Tonsgaard Sørensen and Frederik Øland, violist Asbjørn Nørgaard, and cellist Fredrik Schøyen Sjölin

RIP Pentangle’s Terry Cox
They were my introduction to Folk. Still worth a listen today.
I agree, Mike. It is enriching to hear Richard Thompson’s songs performed by other musicians.
Very sad, a great player and a true gent. Pentangle were unique in their brand of Folk and Jazz, their first album is a terrific recording as well, particularly the vinyl release.
Richard and Linda Thompson, Shoot out the Lights (1982) Thanks to the memory of Andy Kershaw who had many sessions featuring RT, some of these were recorded and are available on the Richard Thompson BBC sessions. Shoot out the Lights might contend to be the best RT album?? Looking forward to seeing RT in June.
