The Essay Martin Hayes Turns the Tune available on BBC Sounds has five episodes in which Olivia O’Leary interviews Martin Hayes about fiddle playing. There is some wonderful music played as illustration.

Martin Hayes Turns the Tune (BBC Sounds) I mentioned above introduced me to Tommie Potts who drew on Jazz and classical music in highly individualistic playing of Irish traditional tunes. He appears to have only recorded one album in his lifetime. He appears as ‘Tommy’ Potts The Liffey Banks (Claddagh Records, 1972)

@Camphuw It certainly is! I’m glad that currently Radio 3 has scheduled folk, ‘world music’, experimental, contemporary classical and talk besides classical music.

Not just ‘recently’ either. The excellent Late Junction, now a very cut-down version of its former self, was a treasure trove of fascinating and unusual music in the early 2000s. I particularly enjoyed Fiona Talkington’s contributions.

@PeakMan I agree, Fiona had a particular interest in Scandinavian music.

Interesting read … new to me, worth a listen too.

Nick Drake, The Making Of Five Leaves Left: 4CD Boxset
2025. Saw this in HMV, so bought it and now playing the first disk. Out-takes and alternative versions with some unaccompanied demos and a 60 page book written by Neil Storey in collaboration with Richard Morton-Jack.

This is packaged in a slip case which contains the resemblance of LP covers. Engineered by John Wood and sounds great.
