The future of Naim streamers

Hi Gary, did you use a (Naim) preamp between Dave and 250? I tried Dave/250DR for a while, with and without the 282 I had at the time, and it was better than I expected without the preamp but probably not an ideal match. It could be very different with the ATC built in power amps.

Hi Chris, I did loose track of the different set ups as I was so taken by the Linn but the chord was linked to a roon nucleus and the 250 not the preamp - sounded better than NDX2 /555 through 552.

As I use an LP12 I would need a pre amp and think chord have pre amp offering coming soon but will try the Linn at home first and if it performs in my room like at my dealers it’s definitely a front runner.

Gary

I recently changed my ND555 to a dCS Rossini Apex ( see “NEXIT” thread). It is in a different league. The conclusion I came to is that NAIM streamers are not worth bothering with: there are much better alternatives available. NAIM need to completely rehash their streamer range to regain some semblance of competitiveness…

Costly and crushing. I’d have found experience too humbling to have continued that journey. Understand emotion.

Absolutely.

Chord do the Prima preamp which would partner Dave if you needed analogue inputs. I now use an Étude power amp which is also designed to work with Dave, but my LP12 is long gone so I didn’t bother with the pre. (They also have the Ultima preamps if you have more cash, and more space.) How any of this gear would compare with the Linn stuff you’re looking at I wouldn’t know.

I plug the lejonklou entity 1.1 phono amp directly to the analog input of the dsm/3, sounds mighty fine to me, my cartridge used to be lyra top of line.
