@JOF I like snow and it seems that we will have a real winter this year after all. Haven’t been skiing this year yet though.
I’d never leave the house.
From the latest government contract for a cycleway I’m involved in:
It’s a bit like, your community thanks you for your service, but middle age white male engineers are no longer required…
We get this things all the time there’s usually ways around it but it doesn’t cause us any grief as my office manager is indigenous.
I understand why they do it but it doesn’t always have the intended outcome.
Hey Joe!
Sad but unfortunately necessary as the local bird population is always at risk.
I agree. Makes a startling point that our fragile ecosystems are in danger to this extent.
The problem for me is that we need a healthy ecosystem (including biodiversity) to overcome global events like Corona, and future possible pandemics that are now being talked about. I was not very optimistic before Corona came along, and less so now.
Can’t they just put it on that island with all the other refugees?
How’s it working out?
See EE 8Switch thread, haven’t had much of a chance to listen.
It looks like the pidgin is going to get a reprieve.
Yes, it’s not like there haven’t been random arrivals of foreign birds flying in over the course of time without the sky collapsing.
More bad pigeon news: I see two pigeons building a next in a tree which is - sadly - going to be cut down next week. How tragic.
They are very romantic - especially he is, but defo no master builders compared to the blackbirds building nests (not seen them yet this year).
As we are on a bird theme…
Are you there with all your friends.
If you spot Merlina heading your way, please let the Queen know or the Tower will fall.
I think that the concentration on equality of outcome is wrong - it should be equality of opportunity that is addressed. It is more difficult to measure and enforce, but it is fairer.
With the gender issue, it seems that equality of outcome (50% of the workforce should be female) only seems to apply to the more desirable and less dangerous jobs - no-one seems to be interested in applying it to construction workers, or sewage workers, or miners etc., but to management-type jobs. Nor is there any real concern over inequality of gender in jobs like nursing or teaching.
Germany has, IIRC, recently passed a law that top management should have a minimum percentage of women (I don’t remember the details). Again, this is equality of outcome. That ignores the question of how many people of each gender are suited to or qualified for or available for the job.
In one of the Scandinavian countries (I think it is Sweden) they have concentrated on equality of opportunity - and the results have surprised people. You don’t necessarily get equality of outcome, because other factors such as differences in life choices, interests etc. are also important.
There’s lots of women in construction in Sydney, not just engineers there’s plenty of young girls working as chippies, electrical and plumbing.
