The Grand Cafe

Think it’s more about respecting a departed member from Richards point of view.

It reminded me of Rush’s “All the Worlds a Stage” and the saying along the lines of we are all just actors on the stage. The biblical verse is akin to being in the world but not of the world. Ironically, it is our rejection of such knowledge that reinforces the cycle we now live in.

I was concerned by Thomas too, who just vanished mid discussion 6 weeks ago. That’s the thing with forums, we never know the context of peoples coming and goings and it’s very easy for our imagination to get ahead of things. But it’s also nice that people are concerned for each other.

Yes, it’s definitely time to move on.

The difference is @Thomas is still a member. He’s just gone quiet so understandably we are concerned. Hopefully just busy.

I also think many people are just active in spurts then life takes over for a while until they find their way back to the forum (any social media for that matter) again.

Think Thomas was having some time off to spend with his family if my memory is correct.

@Richard.Dane I hope the “like” thread returns as it was meant to be a discussion about likes, the use of them and if they’re negative or positive. Also it was a genuine attempt to better understand social media and it’s effects on all of us.

It was never meant to be a where’s Wally thread.

We have some guests here from a certain country and they brought back home mushrooms from the Forrest today. Will I get poisoned when I eat these?

If in any doubt do NOT eat.

Thanks, I’ll smoke them

Don’t ever eat any mushroom with gills unless it’s come from a trusted source. However, those with tubes (looks like sponge) such as boletes are fine (only poisonous varieties are very rare in the UK and none are deadly). In there you have some nice Bay Boletes, which are excellent and dry very well too. I have been drying trays of boletes every day this Autumn - it’s been a great year, after a few disappointing ones. They are fantastic for making mushroom Risotto.

They tell me you can take your wild fungi to a pharmacist here in France and they’ll check them for you and I think the same might go for Germany, anything like that in NL?

Here (Australia) Parks and Wildlife will identify it for you.

Seems almost daily event, problems with customer service. Today Screwfix turn.
I cancelled click and collect order and arranged refund.
That took 30 minutes on phone.
Week later get text that order still awaiting collection.
Another 30 minutes phone call to explain order cancelled and awaiting refund.
Another week and today get phone call from shop asking why I’d not collected order.!
:scream: I blame working from home customer services.

Think you may have a point, I spent 2 hours on the phone with Apple yesterday and ended up exactly where I started - the same problem. I’d just bought Mrs Pete a new phone and couldn’t change my previous address for delivery. Extremely frustrating.

What a week, started last Saturday when the mother in-law arrived and informed Mrs Pete that she thinks she’s dying. Gave her a family heirloom and told her she’d be gone before Christmas. Last thing we needed as Mrs Pete’s first husband and the father of her 2 boys is struggling with stage 4 cancer and only got months if not weeks to live.

Between stuff ups with telcos, Apple and a few meetings with local council/builders I’m looking forward to a drink.

To top it off a friend invited us to a dinner party of 8 tonight only to tell me that I’m expected to cook as he can’t boil an egg and he didn’t want to disappoint his new girlfriend.

Oh dear, a few drinks may well be in order. Maybe take a taxi to your mates, get him to order takeaways and some drinks and slowly slide under the table whilst he woes his new girlfriend.
