The Grand Cafe

There’s no drift here it’s all drift.

We started it after a friend lost a hell of a lot of weight and seems healthy than we can ever remember him. It is a bit weird you can have bacon and eggs for breakfast just no toast. I’ve normally been having a home mixed yogurt (full cream yogurt mixed with full cream :scream:) with berries and almond slivers. Basically it’s just good fresh food minus carbs. I haven’t had bread or potatoes for 3 weeks.

I don’t know enough to recommend it or anything about the concerns. The only thing I can say it seems to be working for us.

Back in the day, I had to get to know about the ketogenic diet as it was being used to control epilepsy in a child in the family. In those days it was translated for non-medics as twice the weight of fat to protein and carbohydrates combined. I remember that double cream was a very important part of the diet.

The interesting part in the context of this discussion is that there was some concern among the less well informed medics involved as to whether the very high fat content in his diet would lead to a high lipid level in his blood and after two years on this diet when this was checked, his blood lipids were found to be perfectly normal.

All I know is it’s working and not eating lots of processed foods has to be better for you.

I do find it strange that there’s lots of fruit you’re not supposed to eat, I love oranges and mandarins and so far it’s the only thing I really miss.

You haven’t mentioned grog

That’s a killer for adding on the kilos

Still enjoy the odd glass of wine but I’ve been drinking a no carb beer that I been enjoying.

I don’t drink grog during the week unless going out , it helps for sure

Haven’t bought a loaf of bread in over 6 months

At our (my) age everything in moderation

Have you booked a seat on flight so you get a good one as best can?

I’m the same I try (and sometimes fail) to only drink on the weekends or if I’m out for dinner.

Re booking in the bastards now want to charge you for the honour of picking a seat. I was thinking of upgrading to business but it was an additional 12k. Flying these days has become extremely expensive.

Yep I’ll be hanging around Aussie and NZ for holidays over the next couple of years , bugger them I’m not paying those prices to sit in a tube

We’re off to Canada next year but our eldest son is paying and he’ll be booking business. When I told I thought that was way too expensive he replied with “I’ll book economy for you then”

Mrs Mike is now thinking about Adelaide for the Sept/Oct school holidays. I’ve no idea what it would be like?

She’s also talking about Canada for the big holiday (2024 or 2025), as you can fly direct from Auckland. I still prefer the idea of England with Singapore stop-overs each way.

Adelaide is ok but it’s a bit sleepy. Great to head up to the hills however and visit some of the best wineries in Australia.

I have a 3 hour stop over in Abu Dhabi.

Rule in this house is no bread unless I bake it myself. Really cuts back consumption though when available, it seems to evaporate :joy:

I haven’t baked any bread in ages.
When I do, it absolutely does not last long at all.

At least the temperature is dropping this week, so many of our hotels have no air con.

That’s ok as long as they have a bar.

Just leaving for the airport now.
