Happy Birthday Pete. Man … that is quite the undertaking you’ve got going on there. Mrs 1111 is getting jitters from us just buying, selling, and moving in a year or two. We will most likely be moving out of the city, to a quieter, smaller community/town. Population is around 6000. So I think the added life change is perplexing her a bit.

We did that 2 years ago, I would have moved to a few acres just out of town but Mrs Pete wanted to be close to town. She got her wish we’re building right in the middle of town.

I’ve never regretted leaving the big smoke.

That’s good to hear. We’re about the same age, my wife is a couple years older, so our situations are similar.
People say, at our age we should be near hospitals and stuff, or if one of us wakes up dead one morning, the other would move back and it’s expensive. Y’know … ya get all these warnings from people that are really just trying to help.
Luckily, an extra move, like if one of us needed constant medical care, would be very affordable, so I been saying just that. If we need to move again, no big deal, we’ll spend the exta 60-70k and move.

But where we want to move to is only 10-15 minutes from a major centre of about 200,000 population, so it should be fine. We could even Uber that regularly if we needed to.
Just some thots …
Btw, my eldest daughter was 41 today.

We moved to a town with a population of around 3,500 add about 1,500 in the farms and up the valley. One of the reasons we picked Gloucester is it has a hospital and if it’s an emergency a helicopter is only 20 or 30 minutes to the major university hospitals in Newcastle.

However it’s the people that make it here, yesterday Sue and I went for a walk to get a milkshake and ran into a few friends. Within ten minutes we’d meet up with other friends by the time we got to the coffee shop there was 9 of us, all unplanned. What was meant to be a half an hour turn into a 2 hours chat.

Our kids are a little concerned about our isolation especially since my diagnosis but we’ll make it work.

You cover a lot of the things we’ve been talking about. Maybe actually getting to know some people and that whole small town comfort thing. We believe it will be a lot nicer in many ways.

And we like critters, so we’d like a place that backs onto a greenbelt, or farmers fields, and there’s many of those in the town. I’ll tell my wife about your experiences. Thanks.
