As we head into the weekend of this year’s Masters, I thought it high time anyone interested had another outlet for sharing their joy/frustration/nervousness (take your pick).
It may seem like a done deal with Rory commanding a record breaking halfway lead but he’s blown a big lead here before (4up with 9 to play in 2011). Anything can happen!
I really have only the most passing interest in golf but McIlroy is a sportsman I wish well. He seems to somehow remain natural and authentic. His win last year was genuinely emotional.
Otherwise The Masters is frankly a bit weird to this casual viewer. Yelling ‘get in the hole’ is beyond irritating, and the whole image is just too manicured and artificial for me. The strangest of sporting environments!

The spectators at the masters are pretty well behaved and respectful of players talents and abilities regardless of their nationality. McIlroy is being encouraged and applauded by all fans. The Ryder Cup is the one where the fans go OTT.
I was rather hoping that it was going to be Justin Rose’s year after losing the playoff in 2025. Two rounds to go though so who knows what might happen? I think Greg Norman blew a 6 shot lead going into the final round back in the 1990’s.
Don’t play golf never have but there’s something about the Masters that makes it a must watch, personally I can’t see McIlroy throwing away a 6 shot lead but it is the Masters and as has been said previously anything can happen.
Seeing Augusta in glorious sunshine always make me feel like winter has properly ended.
Agree re Rose, if Rory bottles it.
I should reply to my own statement “It’s the Masters and anything can happen” and it did !

Caught the last few holes. Pleased for Rory. Also nice to see Rose there or thereabouts.
I watched right from when Rory teed off from the 1st. OK my eyes may have closed for a short while midway through. At one point Rose was leading and I think he will be disappointed to see another opportunity slip by. Early on McIlroy three putted from a relatively short distance and so having the mental strength to come back from that was something to watch. Congratulations to Rory again!
