The Munich “Bird” Report

Thanks for taking the trouble to report on all of this Bert, it’s really interesting. Best of luck with the surgery too.

Peter

I haven’t seen what speaker cables they used, so can’t help you there. It was indeed great fun, to have two days listening to all kind of systems and also all kind of music, which sometimes is new for me and triggers further research. It also grounds me again that I have a pretty good system myself……., in earlier years I had more to desire….
I hope I will be good enough to visit the show later this year which is organized by the audio magazines in Germany. They are smaller of course, but the rooms they use tend to have a much better acoustic as compared to Munich.

@BertBird , did you heard the Boulder room? And the new high end Gryphon electronics?
VAC also maybe?

I think this is what ScanSpeak uses, so if he’s granted my request, so is yours (partially)

At least for amplification, not sure about sources and obviously not speakers.

Thanks so much, Bert, for sharing such a conscientious show report. This is really interesting and well done. A shame about the Naim room, though. In any case, all the best to you and good luck with your surgery.

Found it for you.

Gryphon was also showing its upcoming EOS 2 floorstanding loudspeaker. Noteworthy here is that the bass port can be set to be front or rear-firing depending on placement and/ or the size of your room. The proprietary 34mm Beryllium dome tweeter is claimed to extend to 34kHz, whereas bass can plumb to 25Hz in small rooms. With a quoted 91 dB efficiency and 4 Ohm minimum impedance, you shouldn’t need the Commander and Apex to drive these. So, depending on pricing (I heard circa €20,000 mentioned), the EOS 2 could be a popular inner-city speaker. ( From Stereonet)

Many thanks for all this Bert and best wishes for Thursday.

In the Innuos room were you present for one of their comparative demos of the Statement with new Next-Gen power supply versus the “standard” model?

It’s actually much better than some hifi mags when they visit shows and do a review👍

Thanks @BertBird for your highlights.
Am I the only one that thinks those concept 50s look like giant clothes pegs ?

Nobody can discuss about design as it’s very personal, but actually in the room they looked beautiful to me.

No while I saw a lot I did miss that, I guess you would an additional not existing day for visitors to complete everything…., but I will continue as I still have to do quite a number with also some good memories as well.

Thank you.

I understand. Difficult to see and listen to all rooms. It’s gigantic. Congrats on your audio show reportage, still very interesting, as each year :+1:

Wadax room was also nice. They again dared to play piano music which most suppliers avoid as they are afraid their system won’t cope so well, so it’s better to play rounded smooth jazz and the typical other showpieces ….

I wrote no specifics about the sound, but called it nothing to complain, which is also an indication that it was satisfactory.

They played
Angela Brownridge - Satie 3 Gymnopedies, 1st one
Sarah McLachlan - Ice

Went back to the room with Gauder Speakers and Westend Amps. They also had the trick of playing live combined with recording in the background. In this case the effect was dissapointing for me and I left pretty quick as the balance was not at all as nice as the example I described earlier in the post…
