The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

Looks like it can! According to Richard. That’s pretty neat actually.

I’ve edited as I’m not entirely sure whether the phono MM input can be configured as line or not. Probably needs some Naim input - @110dB ?

I note that some folks are very pleased with their very new NC combos - having been convinced to upgrade significantly, from where they were. I just wonder if they might have been almost as pleased with a similar significant upwards move, in the previous Naim range…?

Just idle speculation. Nothing becomes bad, because a new version comes along…

I just had a look at the NSC 222 user manual Naim have provided for us all on line and there is nothing in there about reconfiguring the phono input. So it seems to be a DIN, a pair of RCA and a MM phono input.

Oh yes it does. Just waiting to pick up one of those schonky old 500’s as soon as they start getting thrown out. :+1:t2:

I couldn’t see anything either. It’s a shame - probably wishful thinking on my part - but then I guess if you need more analogue inputs then it’s a proper pre-amp you need…

I did try a 250 dr on my Uniti nova , not a patch on the NC stuff, and , so little improvement that I sold the 250dr and just resorted to the bare nova. I’m not a ‘box collector’ so the minimal config of the nova appealed, I’ve let my guard down and now have a 2 box solution and heaven knows, may even add the 300 psu. (At this rate, I’ll need a rack!)

The question everyone is wondering about but too afraid to ask is whether the Nait 2 shows it a clean pair of heels

Get a rack and do it! at least you’ll only have 1 remote and an improved footprint going vertical .

What are we thinking price per unit will be for the 300 series stuff to come? 9k, 11k?

The NAP300 is £8.6k in the UK, at present.

£11,400 - each box is going to be £5,700

Same price as two new 250.

The classic Nait 2 will remain while new kit release.
Pity prices has gone crazy.
Had I known I’d never sold any of mine.

Think I’m going to buy up all the ex demo 300drs and 252s I can get my hands on. They’ll go gangbusters when people realise the future cost of going separates.

I think this may be a pretty good assumption for the new monoblocks…the pre-amp maybe £8-9K…

So, maybe circa £20K pre/power combo…

:pound:

But the pre-amp (although it may be offered with its own internal power supply) will be at its best partnered with the npx300 no? And if you’re going down that route, we’ll you’d just have to….

So, maybe £26K pre/power combo…

Mr. M, could not agree with you more. Judging from comments from some contributors, many seem obsessed with having the latest and most expensive Naim kit. Although I am reasonably well off compared to the average Northerner with no mortgage or kids, I pride myself on not overpaying for anything, be it Hifi or cars. I started off with a NAC42.5 and 110 combination bought secondhand for £325 in the 1980’s. I added a flat cap 2 and a stage line N. This lasted me for over 25 years. Traded in with dealer for a brand new Uniti in 2009 when they first came out - had a 12 week build wait (no change there then!).
Once I had more funds I upgraded to a S/H NDX then a NAC202/200/NAPSC pre/power. Added a XPS-X5 to NDX after that. Thanks to EBay this got upgraded to a NDS, then a NAC52/52PS and a NAP250DR. also added an ex demo uniti star to bedroom, not to mention the Supernait MkI in lounge with HCDR with the NAP200 biamped to a pair of B&W 702 signatures, again dealer ex demo grade B stock.
Part of the pleasure is adding extra components and upgrading existing items over the years. I must get round to selling off some surplus stuff as even the conservatory has a HCDR/62/140 lurking in the corner.
I do hope that Naim do not loose the excellent customer support and repair/service facilities of old, but from recent comments by others it seems to be going this way. Easier and more profitable to sell new £5700k boxes than offer a HCDR as a useful upgrade to existing kit.
Hope this stimulates debate!

So current Nap300dr and Nac252/Supercap can be had ex demo for £14.5k or thereabouts - absolute bargain. Get them while they’re🔥
