It’s one of those low wage eastern countries and one of its local low wage companies that recently bought an unknown car brand called Bugatti, this very company, the one that acquired Bugatti, happens to manifacure one of most revolutioanry electric cars on the planet. Could it be possible that in this very region (low wage one) they are able to produce and some hifi stuff, besides the revolutionary electric car that happens to cost somewhere around 2m eur?
Also attended Tony and the chaps gathering at Basically Sound today. Think the red/white wine analogies sums things up between the two setups on show… interesting times ahead.
Thanks to Tony and all involved.
Thats pretty much it……you can dance around the words. For me……hifi falls into 3 categories. Do not like……would never buy ( very rare)……like and understand why others buy( most things i listen to)……then I hear something and I just know……home demo and buy,
Haha that’s really interesting on the red vs white wine analogy. Obviously I wasn’t there, but at a guess: the new kit is like white wine, crisp, clean and refreshing; the old gear is like red wine, mellow, rounded and depth?
I’d pick a white Burgundy over a red Bordeaux any day, but I’m not changing my old kit anytime soon
Yep… definitely clean and crisp with the new kit. I did note a smaller soundstage on the end of one track i was familiar with but that could be down to the 606s compared to my speakers at home.
On my dem last week, at the end, we hooked up the 250 and the 222 to a pair of 606 (because I love the look, have read people raving about them on here, and so had considered them a possible end game for me). I wasn’t impressed either. Could’ve been the room, could have been the temp of the speakers (they were brought in from an adjacent room that was quite a lot colder). My dealer was similarly not impressed (even though he’s generally a 606 fan). He agreed that the temp could have been a big factor. He also said the the 300 psu would probably have sorted them out a fair bit and possibly some different speaker cables, but we didn’t have time for that.
I wouldn’t buy speakers like that without a proper home dem anyway, and I’d want to test out a few different options at home at a similar price point, so it’s not a “no, never” from me, but I was prepared (hoping?) to be absolutely blown away by the 606s, but really wasn’t.
Thanks @BobbyYork - that’s an interesting take. Like you I’ve seen so many positive comments and I imagine I’d love them.
It’s all irrelevant because they’re so far out of my budget I’d never be able to afford a pair . . .
Apologies for derailing the thread.
My (ex) wife cleaned our BMW with a Brillo Pad, (here in Sunny Perth we call them Scotchbrite Pads). Looked great until the water dried off, then there were tears. My lovely ex was mortified.
Well I sold the Bimmer. Bought an Alfa. Machosist am I. 25 years later my wife left, must have been delayed PTSD, I recall I did do my block at her, I still regret that.
I haven’t read this entire thread, but I notice a lot of conjecture regarding future products. Here in Orstralia I noticed that the NDX2, 202, 282, 252, PS555, XPS, Supercap, HiCap, 200DR, 250DR and 300DR are all discounted around 30%. But the 500 range is not, nor Naits, Supernaits, Atoms etc. So it’s pretty clear.
The classic pre and powers are 20+ years young. So well over time.
Just had a wonderful week for my birthday in Sydney. Great jazz at Lazybones, La Boheme at the Opera House, Elton at Allianz, Emma Donovan at City Recital, plus many great cocktails and meals. I love your city.
Definitely coming back, we’re hoping for January again next year.
But back to the thread, I had been heading for a 252 and 250. But a 252 and 300 is very tempting right now. I am not convinced by by the local distributor and had resolved second hand from the UK, but at AUD 24k for a new 252/300, (I have a PS), it’s mighty tempting.
