The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

It will be along I’m sure…

@mrd i have to ask, in what ways did the system improve to your ears? What did you feel was lack8ng with the Nova/250DR combo? Looking to see if our thoughts are/we’re similar, or miles off.

To clarify I wasn’t referencing product ranges but referring to listening/playback of movies at THX reference level.

I assume this is quite a way off yet because this is the new classic. The current classic series does not include the 500 series

That’s fair enough and good to hear although the point I was trying to make is that movies can be a more sterner test than music. And in this respect under some arduous conditions the New Classic NAP 250 shows its mettle and impresses more than the already excellent NAP 250 DR and NAP 300 DR.

Nice one :+1:

I was very happy with the Nova and found it hard to fault VFM was great as was the Sq. I was itching to get better and before the new classic was available had only the old classic range that for me was hassle.
Its still early days for me with the new 200 series but I doubt I will ever regret the change.
It has greatly improved the sq for me over the Nova/dr combo better separation, sound stage, it’s more controlled the clarity is on another level . for me it does it all. Its going to be hard to resist the 300 series later in the year especially when I already have the pre :grinning:

Hi @IainO,
And there is the new streamer in black and white. Another clue is that we are not authorised to view that page in the products list :joy:
Can’t find anything about the new pre and power amps though

White is the new green, it doesn’t get any harder than that…:sunglasses:

Yes. Most good audio does. Toroidal transformers certainly aren’t some special esoteric thing.

There is also a non-authorised pre page…. Not that hard to guess the name :innocent:.

Oh yes so there is.
Not so hard if you look around……
I wonder what the NAP300 replacement will look like, as suggested two monos like the 135s

Me too… Haven’t managed to crack this code so far

Maybe there’s a clue with the URL of the new 250

So the new classic next level will be something like

  • Streamer plus NPX 300

  • New preamp plus NPX 300

  • New mono blocks for NAP 300 topology unknown but possibly with NPX 300 again (unlikely)

6 boxes in total then

Well there we go then Mtuttleb :+1:

So much for trying to cut down on box count :crazy_face:

Haha it ain’t gonna happen. Read my lips no more than 6 Naim boxes . Hmmm I wonder what solutions will come up for Hicap 2 - headline 2 replacements

A 4 box NAP300 would be a surprise. Most likely will be 2 box with some clever Statement technology to isolate the transformer from the circuit. Who knows, maybe even a single box :flushed:

One box for new classic 300 NAP would surprising (and neat) but avid box collectors could console themselves with using two separate NPX300s for analogue and digital power for source and pre .

I’m one of those who is considering upgrading from a SN3 to a pre plus amp. Expect I’ll have to wait to see what boxes come next. I’m especially interested in seeing if the new NPX300 will power my NDX2 and whatever pre comes along or if I will need 2 power supplies. I’d like to think that I could get away with one power supply doing both NDX2 plus new pre and new NC250. 4 boxes which is max I will be allowed for aesthetic reasons. Happy to run mixed old/new for a while till finances allow more boxes - if they are required.
