And what then is relevant to you? If you refer to direct and personal experience, I agree. But I imagine you don’t base your purchasing choices on the tastes or feelings of others, right?
These are two very different things: the price comes from development and industrialization costs, strategic choices, profitability goals, and an industrial plan that could change over time. Sound quality, on the other hand, comes from many factors: the level of technology achieved, know-how, project objectives, and finally also from the price positioning, but not only from that.
In that sense, there is nothing preventing a newer and cheaper product from being better than a previous, more expensive product.
We marvelled not long ago when a super car could do 0 to 60 in around 4 seconds. Now many sports saloons can do that and even go below 4 seconds. Technology evolves and that should be celebrated. We sometimes cling onto the past a little too much rather than celebrating the achievement of Naim in making its NC products sound incredible and also more affordable to more people. This helps to bring the joy of Naim to a larger audience and think that is a good thing.
Absolutely. There’s no earthly reason why the new 250 can’t be better than the 300DR. If it is, it’s something to celebrate, especially as it would mean we can get better sound for less money and with fewer boxes. No one could possibly object to that.
Even if the 250.3 isn’t demonstrably better than a 300DR but gets anywhere close, that’s a big achievement. There is no way I would consider three 300DRs in my active setup. Not only for space and cost concerns but the thought of another six burndies doesn’t appeal at all. I can’t actually see myself spending a net £12k+ to change from 250DR to 250.3 but I would like to hear the difference.
Just postpone the retirement by a couple of years and Naims can keep rolling in…
If our child doesn’t make it into grammar school, I might face the prospect of an independent school. My wife is pretty clear here… The years this would add to my working life fill me with horror, but then we only have one child… In any case, 3 new 250.3 — peanuts…
As has been mentioned already in other places on the forum, Vertere is running a roadshow this year to demonstrate their turntables, DG-1 through to SG-1, I understand. I’m planning to go to the one hosted by John at Midland Audio Exchange. Interestingly the new classic range has been chosen as amplification for the event. I’m very much looking forward to the day as I’ve finally committed to a new MG-1 and I’ll be picking it up at the event. I’ll also be very interested to hear the new classic range as I’m keen to explore options reduce the box count from my NDS/52/300.
Give him a kart and tell him he’s supposed to be the new Lewis Hamilton. Both you and your kid will be happy. All those schools just prepare for a miserable career in banking or worse KPMG / Deloitte et cetera.
I know local school situations can appear to make a grammar / private school seem like the best option - but it rarely is.
As the retired HT of three successful comprehensive schools I’ve seen so many young people do brilliantly in the comprehensive system, including my two! Schools that insulate children from the society they will live and work in is a recipe for unhappiness.
