The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

Lols. Thats better…!!!

The prices don’t seem so bad considering the box count reduction they allow.

Wow! Looks great. Give us your initial impressions on where they fit against the Old Classic Range.

Was thinking the 8 pin DIN meant a new way of powering external boxes!

Had not twigged it is same socket as on NPXTT.

Thanks for the clarification.

Agree. I really like the new aesthetic, but the sq vs cost has to be the main driver for me. I’ve heard the “old” 250dr and thought it was fabulous, that doesn’t change.

Just to make things simpler… I just saw a dealer selling an ex demo 300dr at about the same price as the new 250. If I’m willing to stretch to the price of the new 250, it seems I should also demo the 300dr.

Fun times!

I had a listen this afternoon at Cymbiosis, I just happened to be in the area . I twisted Phil’s arm for a quick listen. Initial impressions are very good, very similar to the characteristics of the Naim Solstice TT. Nicely balanced and very musical, they seem more mature over the old classic range, a little less in your face but still as good,

…I should have said the volume level on the app is a ‘slider’ and not a ‘number’.

The number is on the display only. The remote shows segments to indicate volume.

Sorry for the confusion.

My dealer noted a bit of a shift in tonal character, noticeable……but not dramatic. Will be interesting to see how that pans out.

sorry, no it can’t. Multitasking typo; now corrected in the original post.

Compared to what? My 552 changed the tonal character compared to 272/555. All boxes and combinations have a sonic ID?

80w to 100w is about a 1db increase

A little bit darker, which is what I noticed😊

Ernie only dropped £300 on premium bonds this month so the legacy kit will need to stay in situ for a bit, but really like having something to aspire to.

Chapeau to Naim for getting 2023 off to a promising start.

Knowing Naim they will eschew tradition and bring out a new 400 series.

It’s not loudness watts is about IMO. I can play ears out with 10W too.

Darker…. sounds like a return to the sonic character of the mighty nDAC in preference to the sparklier character of the newer NDX2.

Phew! Definitely no need to change kit now

It is good to know that the new streamer can be used with the existing 555dr power supply. Can the existing burndy that currently goes from the 555dr to my 272 be used with the new streamer, or is a newer model burndy required?

Seems like you’re stuck, the new NPX 300 can not only be used in the new 200 series but also in the upcoming 300 series and as an upgrade to the Solstice and so on…

A new Burndy cable is required.

Huh? The 222 support both old and new burndy?
