The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

Looks good to me. Well done Naim. Hope it sounds great.

Evolution without alienating those with previous kit. Maybe now I could afford a decent used 500DR when the roll out reaches the 500 kit.

Or maybe the new 300 power amp will in fact be the 400 to trump both 300 and 500 DR ?
:thinking::slightly_smiling_face:

Exciting times.

No, I’m saying you’d have to buy more boxes to get the same effect.

Richard do you know if the classic XPS-2 can be used with the new 222 preamp streamer?

Thanks

It does look like the new power supply is backwards compatible with a nac272 and ndx2 so there is hope

Well I suppose if you are not allowed out of the naim room then yes lol.

Yes, it can. All you need is a new Burndy cable.

I’m also a - very happy - Atom HE owner. Would it be fair to say that Naim considered a pairing of the new NAP250 to the HE as an expected use case?

It looks as though any NAP300 upgrade will be mono blocks, as the new PS is described as being for the full range, but doesn’t power the power amps. The 500 series remains as is.

Yes - a fully balanced connection too.

Of no direct interest me as my sole interest now is downsizing to an integrated amp however this is all fascinating. The middle of each unit looks like the centre leaf of a dining table i.e. the ends look like they could be pushed together over it. It’s odd but a grower. The decision to move from DIN to XLR os one I expect to read much more about in Connecttons. The logic of the new boxes otherwise seems very… logical.

My only issue would be the volume control. I hope the light can be turned off.

The sixty four thousand dollar question is: How long before U.K. dealers have new for sale stock, besides demonstration stock? :crossed_fingers:

Will the npx300 work with my ndac???

In the past, Naim have commented on voicing - electronics paired with which speakers.
I haven’t seen anyone mention this so far. If you or @110dB are able to comment. I imagine maybe Focal range.Specifically though, there are a number of us who remain faithful to Naim speakers, Ovators or some of their widely acclaimed predecessors. Where any used against development units?
NSC222 on order will replace Nova, but Ovator S400s will remain.
Dare we asked what was used and what is the proposed pairing please?

Ian,
like all recent Naim products (Uniti range, 272), the volume knob does not have any indication. Just turn it and you see the volume displayed.

Think I’ll stick with my little old Supernait 2.

A good question re. powering the Naim DAC, and one that perhaps @110dB can answer…?

So with a 200 and a 300 series.

What will happen to the 500 series?

Will it be retired, and the 300 will be the gap between 200 and statement

I feel a 300 series (nac252 replacement) will be reassuringly expensive

AFAIK the 500 series remains as it is for the time being (and still superb it is too, so no great shame there!).
