Have only listened to it a couple of hours. But I think it’s little better than my former XPSDR dircect out of the box. More detail and maybe little brighter sound.
‘little better’ or ‘a little better’?
Maybe there is a New Naim Fraim coming to match the New Classics series
Let’s hope so, as it obviously doesn’t work very well on the current fraim rack
I see there is a teaser video up on the Naim Facebook page for the next release. Very much looks like a pre-amp in the styling of the NSC222 minus the screen.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the new preamp had a touchscreen.
But would you be surprised if it didn’t?
i’ll be surprised if my replacement preamp/streamer for the N272 didn’t…maybe a name of the motorway between Bury & Manchester could be an alternative
The M66?
M66 looks like a good single box audio + TV contender into my ATC actives…we rarely do much focused listening since lockdown. clearly needs a comparison with any Naim offering(s)
N272/555 could move to create office sounds again actives (genelec) + headphones
It’s too bad they’re not doing a 300 series streaming preamp.
I’m glad there not - dac tech changes too quickly. Who knows what streaming platforms / tech will be around in ten years. I like a separate dac/streamer. For the outlay of a decent amp I’d like it to last longer than ten years :). …and for less than £500 you can now get state of the art dacs that have virtually 0% noise / distortion and great separation.
That seems very unlikely to me. How many people would want to get up and crouch infront of their HiFi to operate a small screen when they could do it with a hand held screen? Naim did it on the HDX, so if it had been popular I suspect they would have continued to use it.
Not me, that stuff is static enough to not matter. I’d rather have fewer boxes. I’m over collecting stacks of expensive boxes. I want better SQ with fewer boxes.
Maybe a 222 with two NPX300 power supplies is a suitable equivalent?
I’m with you Neil
Separate Streamer for sure with separate PS
If there was to be a compromise on box count to me it would be an integrated amp like the SN3
Unfortunately the SNs were too much of a compromise for me and the streamer in the preamp was less of a compromise.
Me I love a simplified setup and may eventually have jumped at a streamer/pre amp combo at the same level as a 252/NDX2. However I did say may.
For me, it comes down to affordability. 5 of the 6 black boxes in my system were bought second hand. Replacing any of those with new classic gear at the new (higher) prices just isn’t feasible for me, and the old classic are well excellent themselves anyway.
So true Mike. Any Naim system is fantastic in its own right, it’s only when you participate in sites like this that you’re reminded there’s even better stuff.
Think I’ve said it before but the forum should include a wealth warning.
