The Naim New Classic range - Part 1

As an earlier poster said I can only think the revised designs come down to the need for bling to appeal to the broadest sales market.

Having said that I still like the Naim sound and won’t be departing any time soon (for as long as Ebay fills up with olive gear anyway )

Just spotted a very obvious clue in the blurb in the NPX 300 page on the Naim website.

Reach a higher level of musical performance with the NPX 300 power supply for the 200 Series sources and preamplifiers, including the NSC 222 streaming preamplifier.

Pretty much confirms they’ll exist eventually.

My pre-loved CDS3 still had the original protective film over the perspex lid  …and it remained that way for quite some time IIRC.

…am wondering if there isn’t a protective film applied, whether the after-market will provide, similar to moby-phone screen protectors?

Or maybe Naim will announce a new “Party pack” :joy:

I’m being a bit tongue in cheek, I’m sure they’ve thought this through over the 5 years of R&D that went in to it and inevitably numerous prototype iterations, in the flesh they look very well made and put together, I’m sure it’s no more a concern than the fascia on a Uniti product (probably same or similar material chemistry/supplier), I’ve given my Atom a jumper sleeve clean a few times and not had any fallout as a result :cowboy_hat_face:

I know

But it is salient, as my car’s plastic ICE fascia is scratched and I use the softest duster possible to wipe it down. It’s a mystery.

Obviously, even more care will be required when rebuilding Fraim stacks.

My valeter forbids me from cleaning any part of my car. He doesn’t believe I’ll do it properly and simply can’t be trusted to take adequate care not to leave marks/scratches

Is the remote with the 222 the same as the NDX2? ie, black plastic?

As someone who takes many hours to clean a car properly, I sympathize with your valeter! Stay well away

I think to a large extent it depends on when you originally came across Naim; for me, arriving in 2019 the olive looks very cheap 'n home made, the Classic er, well “classic” (& classy), and the Atom/Star/Nova modern & sleek.

Having moved up from a Star to a SN3 / NDX2 / HiCapDR (next month) / CD5si in 2022, I’m still enjoying the classic Classic aesthetic. :+1:

Pretty much. But it lights up in white rather than green

I have all the kit.
I used to clean my Alfa’s to Concourse condition for shows, but apparently I can longer be trusted🤷🏻‍♂️

You beat me to it, just noticed that reference.

Good spot :+1:

Must say I happen to love the “agricultural” look of Naim equipment. None of my non-Naim-fan friends or family would have any clue how old my SU is. They’re timeless designs.

Yes but boy I would have loved to have auditioned Naim gear in the olive era with the active 6 pack systems. I don’t think I’ll ever get to audition any of that now. Hifi has moved along and mostly for the better but I have a hankering for older things. Ferrari F40 for instance. Nothing can beat the first time I stood next to one as a kid. Mind blown!

As @bruss says, it’s in the eye of the beholder. There are no absolutes in aesthetic sensibilities. Personality, on appearance alone, I much prefer “old classic” to olive and chrome bumper to both. As for new classic, I’ll need to see it in the metal/perspex to judge. In particular, I’m not sure about the illuminated volume control, but then I do like the one on my Atom.

Overall I think it’s a handsome case. For my taste the only thing I would change is to make it a green light rather than the white/blue

I never really liked this look. Having owned Naim since CB days I think the current designs are the best and am eagerly looking forward to having a 222/300 on my rack with my 250DR.
