Anybody in the US get their new classic kit yet?
Of course they are. Suggesting otherwise is being cantankerous for the sake of it (takes coverā¦)
I thought that Naim was about quality and not value for money? Still it is reassuring to know that you have to DOWN sample a DSD stream to 705.6Khz 40 bit.
I know that you work to price points, so perhaps an idea might be to design a DAC of Naim quality to blow the competition out of the water?
Inerested to know if/when dealers will be having open days demoing the kit. Hi Fi lounge show a Naim day in March and no doubt Bristol Show but you canāt really get a good demo there with all the external noise from people etc.
Ask your local dealer?
Maybe even sign up for their Newsletters
I subscribe to three, (having bought from different places over many years).
Two have already announced Naim event date - Basically Sound and Tom Tom Audio.
Hope that helps?
Edit : Just checked the third - HiFi Lounge - They have a date planned too, albeit 25th March.
Found the email from Basically Sound, their event is Thu 26th Jan.
Hope that helps?
Assuming this is not a compliment - what do you expect them to do with it using a PCM DAC?
Most DSD came from PCM in the first place!
Steve,
Why was a USB-A connector chosen instead of C on the 222?
Thanks for your input here!
Onix vibes.

Agreed the shows are not always the best environment for a proper demo.
Maybe try your local Naim dealer in the first instance.
I have a feeling that Naim staff will be supporting many of the dealer events.
So, not only do you get to hear the products. But also meet the Naim experts and listen to the Q&A sessions.
Lastly, it looks like most dealers have got their New Classic demo items in store now.
Well done to Naim for co-oridating that task.
Explain please.
My reply was to someone asking if any dealers had them on dem.
The aesthetic reminds me of earlier Onix hifi. The OA-21 in particular.

I think it is a comment about how the 222 looks a bit like the Onix OA21 due to the volume knob.
Gettit.
Iāll show my age thinking it looked a bit Lecson style without the loud colours.
Modern stuff I agree is recorded in PCM, pre 1979, or some time around that, still in the 1980ās a lot was recorded onto and mixed using analogue tape. A back catalogue item would have the AAD signature on it on early CD pressings.
Use a search engine āpcm to dsd conversionā it comes up with some interesting results.
I am also interested in the photo stage within the 222, is it a stageline in the box? Is it screened from other components? Would an external stageline sound different?
I guess Iāll wait for the open day at my local dealer, and maybe even take some DSD music in with me.
My point was that on any Naim DAC they have to convert to PCM before the analogue conversion.
Iām looking forward to some reviews on the new NPX 300. Iāve been considering a 555 for my NDX2, but perhaps the advances in the 300 will take it close to the 555 level. I havenāt read through all of the threads in this topicāitās just too longābut have there been others with the same question?
Letās talk economics for a minute. I have a NDX2/555PS/Nac 252/Nap 300/SuperCap. This bundled up to roughly $65K Canadian (costly in Canada I know).
If I were to but whatās currently new and available it would be 222/250/NPX300 for a Cad combined cost of $36K. So roughly half what I paid (and likely less than half the current replacement cost new).
So the new classic system isnāt stupid pricing. But I will bet that my system sounds quite a bit better unless the new engineering is truly magical. Diminishing returns of course
Just saw a new Mercedes AMG advertised for $300K. Iām thinking that these hobbies donāt compete with the food budget.
