Or The Goodies’ Funky Gibbon?
Quite possibly, however one is a speaker and the other a song.
It’s getting rather Tolkienesque here, what with Elves and Griffins.
HiFi , can become a very expensive hobbit , be it does give us some very good ent-ertainment
I’ll get my coat
JRR Tolkien was a Fellow of Merton College, and would sign copies of his books for College members. Sadly, he died two years before I started, so I never had the chance to meet the great man.
I’ll start by apologising in advance for the extremely sad Tolkien pedantry I am about to perpetrate, but despite my social skills telling me to not post this I’m pretty sure there are no griffins anywhere in Tolkien’s Legendarium.
You may well be right, Eoin, I haven’t read the books in years. All sorts of other nasties, though!
I may have to think about reading the books all over again.
If you get to the bit where Gollum is describing his Nait 50 as “My Precious”, it’s time to listen to some more music!
Led Zepp - ‘Gollum, the evil one, slipped away with her’.
Or something like that!
Congratulations James!!! May I ask what speakers are you going to play with please?
I previously wrote about my experience with a demo Nait 50 a couple of weeks ago and said I’d found it had good prat but was a bit lacking in the top end with high hats and cymbals etc.
I demoed the unit again about two weeks ago and found the top end was all there so it was maybe still burning in the first time I borrowed it.
The second demo I found it was a little underpowered for my needs and because of this the Nait 50 got quite hot at normal listening levels in my set up with the Neat Ekstra’s.
A good listening volume on my old CB Nait 2 was about 9 o’clock whereas on the Nait 50 it was around 12 o’clock even though on paper it should of been the other way around.
With the Nait 2 supposed to be around 14 watts and the new Nait 50 is supposed to be around 25 watts.
Thought it only fair to give an update on my impressions.
Thankyou. I hope all goes well with your installation tomorrow
I’ve just slotted it into my main system to see what it can do, so Kudos Titan 606s and fronted by a Klimax NGDSM. Powered via dedicated mains and a Naim Power-Line.
Volume knob rotated to the end stop 10 times and the instant on switch set to on to help run in…. Powered up (yes that LED is bright…) and it’ll be used for usual TV duties tonight.
No SQ impressions yet, but what a fantastic tribute to the original NAIT (which I’m also lucky to own).
Steve @110dB and the team behind the NAIT 50, you’ve done Naim proud.
No rush…Enjoy.
James , glad to see you cleanned the boot nicely before you put the box in it !
Enjoy……look forward to your new system impressions.
Elfs indeed. Faulty aging memory being exhibited.
I was always intrigued by the idea of Elves (Shahinian’s, not Tolkein’s!) but never had the chance to listen to them. Settled for a pair of Larcs instead - brilliant for such a small cabinet.
There were a pair of elfs for sale in NZ last year for 400quid. But veneer was damaged on top of one so I passed. Still have the CB nait 2 and will probably get Fyne 500 bookshelves for it as they are efficient and attractive, like myself
Ha
Thank you. My setup is going to be also a Linn source and Kudos at the end but they are Akurate DSM/3 and X2 respectively. Will report my impression later after my installation.
