Keep it up and I’ll end up with a 332 250.3 or even a pair of 350s and a really tragic bank account
My dang dealer keeps giving me upgrade offers I can’t say no to. I have a 332 on order so put me on ignore lol
why would Naim make it a Limited Edition ? Seems a bit silly.
To get you to buy one, its called marketing.
I noticed the volume settings (matched listening level) in the video that @Blackbird posted between the Nait 1 and Nait 50.
I also found the volume settings are not much different. Normal listening volume on my Nait 50 is around 8:30 o’clock. Speakers are 88dB sensitivity.
Further observations during NAIT 50 start-up. Upper and mid bass boosted. The character of the bass, its attack is very similar to the Cyrus 8.2 with the psxr2 power supply, but in the Cyrus the bass was a bit more punctual, contoured. But it’s the same attack, the same boosted upper bass, and that’s cool. On the other hand, the Nait 50 does not have the opening of the midrange and the opening of the treble as in the Cyrus 8.2. Thanks to this, the NAIT is never flashy or harsh. Something for something. The midrange of the NAIT 50 is more resolving than in the Cyrus 8.2 but less open. The female vocals in NAIT 50 are a bit more nasal. Both amplifiers have PRAT.
I have now had the NAIT 50 LE about a month and even if I still like the concept of this product the problem which I do not know if it is a feature or fault has been starting to annoy me. As I described earlier I do low level (7:20) listening regularly and now I have noticed a clear (severe even) imbalance between speakers.
I did not have this issue earlier with SN2 but just to be sure I did switch the speaker cables to see if there was an issue with speakers, however, that does not seem to be the case.
I can see from the pictures posted here that my listening levels seems to be very low compared to others but I would still be interested to know if anyone else has a similar experience or has any comments on this matter.
Interesting observation osprey
That is also an issue with the Nait 2 , at least on mine it is , so just have to crank it up a little to get it passed a certain point
The Alps volume pots that Naim have long used are prone to channel imbalance at low volumes. Where this was causing problems for users in the volume range they actually use, some have had their units returned to Naim who may be able to correct the problem. If it’s a problem for you, talk to your dealer.
It’s a classical 4x135, with a NAXO + Hicap , pre is a NAC52 + Supercap, and an Ndac + XPS. The sound is wonderful on SBL.
Thanks for your comments and advice @Bevo & @ChrisSU
Yes, I know that in order to try to fix this issue I need to contact the dealer. However, it’s always good to have a little bit further background information before discussing with them.
To reply to your question I would say Rock and jazz
I nearly got to listen to a Nait50, but not quite. My nearest Naim retailer called on Friday to say that they had one in for me to listen to and also confirmed that they had a SuperNait3, which I wanted to compare. I thought it only fair to advise that if it turned out that I preferred the sound of the SN3, then I would buy a secondhand model, two year old examples of which seem to sell at around the same price as a Nait50. The retailer then said that the Nait50 was similar to a Nait XS(2?), and that it was an unfair comparison. It then seemed that the opportunity to listen to a Nait50 was closed off, which is disappointing, especially considering how much I have spent with that retailer. Oh well, mustn’t grumble, S/H SN3 it is then.
My thinking is this (I’m sure there will be those that will correct me ) the XS2 is the basis of the amplification section of the Nova .
Out of the box, the Nait 50 was clearly warmer, more detailed than my Nova . At “25 watts” it had a better grip on my Harbeth P3ESR (83 DB & 6ohms) than my Nova
(The Nova is a fine piece of kit, and if I hadn’t suddenly been offered the chance to downsize box count and box size, I would have snarled at the thought of losing the Nova)
I should also say this rumour about the Nait 50 being an XS2 has surfaced on Facebook with somebody inviting me to ring Naim to confirm this. In reality the Nait 50 is a trickle down from the newer Classic products
That’s a shame Clive. It’s a cracking little amp, so it’s a shame the demo fell through. You can’t really go wrong with a SN3 though.
Of course, it does have obvious advantages: remote control, more inputs, more power. I’m sure there are others too.
The main reason in choosing the XS3 or SN3 over the Nait-50 is if one needed more power or inputs imo.
I have had not one regret in choosing the Nait 50 over the other Naim amps.
I have an SN3. Are those who’ve listened to N50 and the SN3, saying I’ve got the lesser piece of kit?
I’m not changing anything; I’m very happy with my system, just genuinely interested.
Me too, well, from the perspective of a XS3 owner! I’ve seen a few posts now suggest the new amp gives them serious concerns.
I appreciate the IO flexibility of my XS3, and am looking forward to any new XS or SN New Classic boxes. And in the meantime my XS3 looks and sounds as good as it ever did. And even then I only justify kit changes after a decade or two of service
I do kinda wonder if the NAIT50 might even be a bit special compared to a full sized NC NAIT. Perhaps there’s something about the simplicity and engineering focus required. Though I have nothing at all, other than conjecture, to base that on!
