Second Power Line
Okay so two years into ownership and having last week putting a powerline on the MusicWorks Reflex mains block I have this morning put a Power line on my Nait 50 . Many years ago I had a Powerline on my Norton Airpower LP12 Power supply, part of my ’ other system ’ , where it was epic and very dynamic elsewhere in that system I was never been quite convinced by them , finding PowerLines a little dark sounding . Powerline lites are my go to power cable unless Vetere Redlines are available .
Surprise the Nait 50 and the PowerLine were made for each other . The Nait 50 really is a remarkable amplifier
Any thoughts on Redline versus powerline?

I’ve had the N50 for like 10 days now and initially I’ve had it placed on an inner shelf on my rack, assuming the height between shelves (~23cm/9’’) is sufficient for keeping it relatively cool, but I noticed that it is constantly warm, even when not in use, I do not use stand by mode, so I thought it was normal. Yesterday I decided to place it on the top shelf, putting the nDAC below and it makes a difference definitely, not sure whether is has any effect on SQ, but in terms of temperature it is much cooler now. Beast of an amp that is…
In my main system the Vertere is much better than my Powerline lites by a significant margin as in obviously so much so that I have six of them including one on a NAPSC 2 . I have not compared the Redline with a Powerline having already rejected them ( the Powerlines ) in my system and with my own set of listening requirements . The Powerline worked fantastically well on my Norton Airpower a, transformer power supply for the LP12 but as I said in an earlier post I found them slightly veiled and dark on my Classic and Olive Naim amps .
The Powerlines suit my Nait 50 to a tee . No doubt the Nait was developed with the Powerline
I was quite taken aback by the improvement in Sound Quality when I moved my Nait to the top shelf . See Nait 50 User Guide page 5 section 4 Set Up . And again in section 5 Tips on Installing and Using your Nait 50
Thank you Rosie. It’s good to know the Powerline works well.
Cheers
Reggie
I have just been enthralled by the N50 all afternoon. . . and was about to post the same thing!
Each album or track I play has taken on a new feel, and as much as I love my SN3, I think the N50 is going to be my choice for my main listening space.
And all this because I’ve been burning in my son’s own N50!
Agreed. The SN3 can’t touch the NN50 sonically.. NN50s lack of bells and whistles pays off big time….
I’m so tempted to buy another one for downstairs but the lure of actives is holding me back.
Out of interest, were / are you using the internal dacs of the Wiim and Node?
But even better with a Vertere Redline…..
Here we go again ![]()
Yep. And external variations. But the ICON is exceptional mated direct to NN50…
I am entranced with the music through the ATCs.
All I actually need..
I’ve been using the internal DAC on my Ultra into the NAIT 50 and, with Qobuz or my own Flac library it sounds fantastic. That said, I have a couple of DACs lying around that I will try at some point over the next few weeks
Well hand my Nait 50 for 6 week’s now having traded in my 6 year old Nait 5si and all i can say is WOW what a change my new amp is !
More clarity to the sound better separation of instrument’s a fuller sound.
my Neat xs2’s have never sounded this good, for me the Nait 50 was the missing part of my HiFi puzzle as i have spent ££ on the frontend of my system.
I must say getting my Nait 50 was a leap of faith as i only went on the info from the Naim community as i can’t get out so much now and the offer i got to change my amp out was just too good to pass up and i had 30 days to change my mind.
So a BIG thank you for the insight of this lovely amp & big Mike’s brother for the deal of the year, so now back to the music !
Interesting
If I should enter the higher end streaming, is Icon the choice to replace my Wiim Pro + ?
(I do have a Rega DAC/R which will see me out.)
Can’t/won’t join Naim price level streamer.
You could join for a modest investment if you were to consider nDac and ND5/XS2 or nDac and Limetree. I have no direct experience of Limetree but I can vouch for the Naim combo, which is spectacular with the N50.
Edit. 2nd user bargains ![]()
Reggie
£750ish for an ICON …
Hifi bargain.
It’s better than my considerably more expensive CA EXN100 and a step change better than my WiiM ultra.
The DAC implementation and clocking circuit is very well developed
I’ve not read the whole thread (6300+ and counting!) but…
What’s the best source someone has run into the N50 and how will it go with SBL’s in a small/medium room?
The NAIT 50 will scale up to whatever high-quality source you connect to it.
In my case, an NDS w/dual power supplies, to the NAIT 50, via a High-Line.
I can’t address the SBL part of your question, but I’m sure that others will jump in.
I use a CDX2 , my guess is that it would go quite happily with a LP12 , or the NDX2 .
