I did, they look remarkable considering the age. He’s a good guy on PF, I am sure all will be well with the IBLs. Interested to hear your thoughts once collected and setup :slightly_smiling_face:

Have now again got a pair of passive filters for my DBL’s ,hooked up the Nait 50 and the marvelous little amp drives the DBL’s really well indeed,:sparkles:

IIRC @Richard.Dane once described similar success here, with a Nait 5 in the head office dem room.

Yes,but the Nait 50 is a much better amp,I think.

I wasn’t expressing a preference, more trying to say how little power might be required to make DBLs work.

Chris, I would say that the combination worked, in that it made a sound, which is not quite the same as working well. For all that, I was surprised that they worked as well as they did, no doubt helped by the CDS2 that was the front end.

Absolutely Richard, Nait 5 made them work. That’s all it did.

An opportunity for a NAIT 50 came along. Picking it up on Monday.

Will be using it with the LP12,Piccolo Zero, NSC222/300 and the Spendor D7.2’s

Be fun to see what happens…if I like it, I will move on the NC250 and NSC222 for the NSS 333

Hi @nicnaim

I think the Nait50 and the LP12 are a brilliant pairing. I’d love to know whether you feel the Nait50 is able to drive your D7.2 speakers. On paper it shouldn’t, but who knows?!

I was all set for trading in my SN3 for the NSC222 and going active with my PMC 25.23i speakers but after swapping the SN3 out for the N50, I quickly abandoned that idea. The Nait50 is not going anywhere and I will be moving on my unused PMC active upgrade kit.

Enjoy your new purchase - it’s a cracking amp which I hope works with your speakers - it certainly will with the LP12.

I’d also be interested how it handles the D7.2 ‘s.

The D7.2’s are 90db Sensitivity with a Nominal 8 ohm impedance (minimum 5.0) so it should work on paper. But who knows? That’s half the fun.

They are described by the manufacturer as “Easy to drive and efficient the D7.2 is compatible with any amplifier design, from low powered tube amps to powerful solid state designs.”

That’s interesting to read…
Did you get as far as trying your PMC 23i’s as active with your SN3 ( pre only). Just curious?

In the meantime, glad you’re having fun with the N50, lovely shoe box.

Hi @ratrat

No I didn’t do the comparison; I am really taken with how good the Nait50 sounds with the LP12 through PMC 25.23i speakers (passive). So much so that I am not even curious about comparing this combination with the NSC222 with active (PMC) speakers.

90% of my listening is vinyl and the mid spec LP12 (with MM) and Nait50 pair so well together. A simple, iconic and wonderfully engaging set up that will free money up for me. Thanks for your interest.

I am a little curious about how a speaker like the Neat Petite Classic or Falcon Q7 might sound with the LP12/Nait50 pairing but in no rush to do anything about it at the moment.

Thanks for explaining your direction of travel.

Have always admired your philosophy or approach, which seems to be based on combining the lovely balance of “best sound” with “simplicity” and this is laudable.

Having looked at Falcon speaker kits before, very tempted to build a pair. Would you go factory build or home build ?

Happy listening

Thanks for your post. I wish I was the type that rolled up my sleeves and built my own speakers in the garden shed but I’d struggle to even build a kit. I don’t know one end of a soldering iron from another and I don’t have a shed!

I see people on here designing and building their own speakers and I am in awe of their skills and dedication. There are some wonderful threads on speaker builds; I can’t imagine how satisfying it must be to accomplish something like that.

I’ve not looked into Falcon Acoustics - or any other speaker manufacturer - because I’m very happy with the PMCs. However, I see many people on here are running their Nait50 with smaller BBC type speakers which makes me curious about how they sound. I’m still enjoying - and being beguiled by - the Nait50 and how well it drives the PMCs. The ‘i’ version really is a great all rounder and that they can produce well integrated and fast bass at the lowest frequencies.

Edit: I meant to ask, what did you make of the Falcons - as it looks like you have listened to some?

The smaller Falcons like the L3/5a and the larger Q7 sound very good with the N50.. and indeed many amps. I have spent some time with LS3/5a Silver build with my N50.. these speakers are quite different from most other speakers I have either owned or tried.. in terms of presentation.i would say the mids are superb.. up there like electrostatics, the bass is fast detailed but not unduly prominent or exaggerated, unless the track calls it out like in IDM/electronica and pop.

The treble / high end is good but possibly not exceptional… but apparently the Gold builds are better here.. in terms of clarity not amount.id say the LS3/5a has a slightly forward presentation .. which I guess it’s how it was designed for its original intended job as a production monitor. But because of the this matches well with the N50 which in itself I find not unduly forward, say like a NAC282 is.

The imaging, even off axis is simply fascinating, not quite sure how it achieves that.

I do note the low sensitivity of these smaller speakers means the amp has to work harder for musical material.. and so my N50 runs warmer driving the LS3/5a than my other larger more efficient speakers.

I really love my NAIT50.
The combination of the REGA P6 with an EXACT MM cartridge and the NAIT50 is fabulous.

Since I got the NOVA PE, I had to get a phono preamp. I chose the AUDIONOTE R ZERO.
And you can really hear the difference.
This phono preamp really reads everything on the record. As a result, I have records that I can’t really listen to anymore, whereas on the NAIT50 they were perfect.

There are many more micro details, but all the flaws come out too. So the source has to be top notch.
But when it is, it’s truly magical.

So it might be worth trying an external phono preamp on the NAIT50. At least to listen to.

BUT I would never sell my NAIT50 because it really is an extraordinary amplifier.

I have a N 50 but dont use it because of its lack of balance control.

My left ear is better than the right,so I get a one sided sound stage which spoils things.

Otherwise, I agree how good this amplifier is,and if I could balance things out,it would be all I need.

Have been happy with my 42.5/110 used with Harbeth p3 esr”s and an LP12.

Maybe I will stick with that, and just listen to music!

Good move. I would think it will drive your speakers with ease. It’s a high current device and in the scheme of things your speakers are relatively sensitive. Whether you like the sound will be the important part. Also, I reckon the 333 would be an excellent move.

I’m interested to hear how things go and how big your room is. I am currently making plans for my second N50 and have similar ideas to you…
