Amazing but I guess 2.5 years after the above post this ain’t going to happen. If it ever will they will probably charge £3k+. Great mock-up.
Nait 50 Plugged back with Chord Dave and Dynaudio C2. The bass response is somewhat less overwhelming than with the NAP 250DR. There is adequate bass with the Nait 50.
Hmmm this has me thinking now, maybe I don’t need to sell the Dynaudio C2 after all….
That would be my perfect system, plus a Nait 50 active volume control upgrade with a very simple Naim up and down volume control remote control with a back light.
If they sold a simple upgrade kit with a motorised volume pot and fancy remote for £600 I bet they would sell out of Naits in a week and be inundated with orders for all the other units sold.
But would it then be a Nait 50?

What size is your main listening room and are you starting to prefer the Nait 50 v 282/250?
Damn, that does look absolutely stunning, doesn’t it? And no, sadly I can’t see it ever happening, which is a shame.
I pair an NDX2 with my Nait50 and it sounds really good. I can only imagine how good the latest NSS 333 must sound with it. I’m more than happy with the NDX2 though . . .
Limited production at 3.5k. I’ve ordered mine for 18 mths time when they are selling them off at 1/3 list. ![]()

I need to let the Nait 50 run in for a few weeks to give my definitive answer. Right now I can hear that it needs to run in.
Room size? I have the opportunity to get probably the last Nait available in my country, but this would be a blind purchase. My room is about 5 x 4.5 with a highish ceiling. I’ve got a 282/250DR and Proac D30 speakers. I’m a little concerned that the Nait might not have the oomph in this situation. Simplifying the setup would be great, especially since we’ve lost our superb national service provider (the previous Naim distributor for over 30 years). Cheers.
It definitely has to do with how each of us listens to music but I have a feeling that your concern, the Nait not having much oomph, is not one to be worried about. Looking at the specs of your ProAc D30 they have a sensitivity of 89db/1w/1m, so unless you are playing music at 95db and above (mean value) you won’t have a problem.
I’ve had the Nait50 a few months now and I have a few reflections about it.
-
I am listening to music for significantly longer periods of time than previously.
Not background listening, but sitting and listening, lapping it up.
-
I feel happy and uplifted because I am fully immersed in the experience; it’s such an enjoyable activity. I’m often lost in the rhythm, lots of head bobbing and air drumming etc.
-
I crave the opportunity to listen to music and constantly try to find 2, 3 or 4 hours of just playing records or queuing the streamer feels like such a treat. (About 80% vinyl 20% streaming).
-
I like my sound to be just a shade on the warmer side of neutral. The LP12 and NDX2 complement the amp very nicely (with neutral PMC speakers). To my ears it sounds glorious.
-
The Nait50 can more than fill my room which is 16ft x 16ft plus bay window and high ceiling.
-
I’m bursting with exuberance wanting to share just how much joy this amp/set up brings me. Comparing the Nait50 to other amps isn’t taking me into how much better or worse certain aspects of the sound are, (balance, soundstage etc) it’s about levels of fun and enjoyment and nothing gets even close to the Nait50. As an example I have been listening to music all today (10 hours!) and I want to do the same thing again tomorrow!!
-
Music sounds dynamic, alive, fast and compelling. And the Nait50 can do subtlety.
Above all, I feel so lucky to be able to enjoy something that brings me and my partner so much joy and fun.
Great ! What amp,did you have before the N50 ?
Supernait 3 (which I still have and rate highly)
Supernait 2 (ditto but part ex’ed for the SN3)
Arcam A32 (with P35 power amp)
Arcam A65+
Thanks ! ![]()
I’m running in a new NSS333 now. Using it with the NPX300 into the Nait 50. I have had Iradio playing all week. Will be interesting to hear how it sounds this weekend!
As an alternative, you can add a preloved 555DR to the NDX2
If simplification is your goal….
I also bought mine without audition, I can safely say that I have no regrets at all and if this were my only Naim amplifier I would be very happy. I’m of the opinion that I think you can buy with confidence. I have an average sized room, but I listen at low volume levels below 85DB.
Yesterday evening I listened to an old favourite. Caution Horses by The Cowboy Junkies. A sign of a great amp is if I can hear Margot’s breathy lyrics on Witches fully articulated. Bang on. This really is an incredible little amp. Simple makes it pure gold for SQ.
I use the Audirvāna app on the iPad as a volume control. It controls the Linn Klimax DS3 which doesn’t loose SQ this was (similarly to the Chord DAVE). Put a really high end DAC/streamer with an app or remote in front of the N50 and there’s no worries about the lack of a remote….
It’s special for sure. If you “get it” you really, seriously “get it”.
In the right circumstances it’s a means to have something as exciting as a real performance in your space. I think over the years as more words are written by long term owners and 2nd, 3rd hand owners this amp will achieve a genuine legendary status. Those 1973 units will feel very few.
It had a weird start, but in 15 years you won’t get one for less than 5k, maybe more.
I can’t help thinking this amp design is too good to be cast as a limited special edition. I think there should be an opportunity to incorporate a variant into the regular portfolio, not least because it stands apart or at least distinct from the other Naim portfolio amps in terms of audio performance.
Perhaps a variant with remote, phono input as well as DIN for more market appeal. Sure it might not be as finessed as the N50 which is very very special, but if it was 80% there it still would be a special amp in its own right.
What has been eye opener with this product is reminding us that modest average power (with a massive peak power reserve) and simplicity can allow very special amplifiers to be made.. avoiding the compromises necessary with higher average power and more complicated designs.
