I find the amp as a whole is very revealing of source, my LP12 has been through the same motor/PSU upgrade and it’s obvious to hear the difference.
I’ve recently got an ND5 XS2 (it was ridiculously cheap) and whilst great, I still prefer the turntable.
Steve Sells has mentioned on here that the phono stage has a 0.15dB hump at 40Hz and while this may upset the purists, it’s where my speakers are already rolling off but I’m sure it adds to the bass performance and character
To be honest I dismissed the NN50 phono stage after only briefly trying it out and returned to running a stand alone phono into the NN50.
I’m curious if maybe I judged to quickly the NN50 was fresh out of the box at the time and there is no denying the amplifier section has significantly improved with run time and I wondered if the phono section will also benefit from run time if I give it the chance. With that in mind I’ve reconnected it to my TT (Technics SL1300G) to give it another go. I don’t expect it out perform my stand alone but maybe the gap will narrow with further run time through the NN50’s phono.

Hi
I just read the PS upgrade in you’re system I just got the Utopik Miniline Upgrade done to mine and
Just a suggestion as I don’t know if the modifications to the casings going back to linn are a long term offer.
Don’t miss out and keeps the Rad serviceable and current.
Got mine done through @Cymbiosis

Hello
In the “ old “ klimax case as was now machined case it has a Dynamik power supply installed but there is a new supply called Utopik and they have offered for now an upgrade to that power supply in the form of Utopik Miniline.
It’s arranged through the linn dealer sent to Linn for machining of internal casework and is fitted in the factory.
I’ve just had mine done it’s a Black one no marks or damage whatsoever.
The Dynamik is being phased out and all new supplies are Utopik.
But the Machined case is no longer offered and the standard case one will only have Dynamik and no upgrade offered.
Dont miss out or it’s a very expensive upgrade to the new real Klimax Radikal
£11,500.
The upgrade for yours is £2,650
Thanks so much for the info @Skeptikal. Really helpful - thank you.
We share the same Linn/Naim dealer. Peter offered me an excellent deal on a KRad2 without the upgrade. I have been blown away by it since plugging it in.
When I had the Lingo4 powering the LP12, 95% of my vinyl sounded better compared to the NDX2. A small percentage of poorly produced or poorly pressed albums sounded better though the streamer. However poorly pressed/produced vinyl now sounds waaaaaay more enjoyable with the KRad2. It’s probably been the upgrade that has brought the biggest impact and enjoyment I have experienced.
You are most welcome in my position I no longer use the Urika as I’ve gone MM so rather than jump to the expense of the dual supply Rad 3 I future proofed my existing “ old school Klimax Radikal.”
See the man and get it while you can.
That combined with the Karousel Bearing.
I’m not sure how long linn will offer this upgrade to previous Klimax spec machined Radikals.
E.g. from the ones I’ve owned in the ~£500 -1k range such as Rega, Teddy Pardo, Whest, Avid - the only one that sounded clearly better (or worth the investment) to my ears was the Avid
Good phonos above £1k would normally be an improvement.
I am thinking of getting the NVC TT at some point soon - had it for a long home demo previously with my 222 and N50 and thought it worked very, very well with both.
So having sold my MF power amp, the 252 is very quiet. So, the nait 50 has been promoted into the primary system. Fed from the ndx2/555 and into the PMC Twenty5 24i. I need to find my 5-4 cable and bring my TT/Superline into play….
Initial reactions……well, it holds its own. A little different in presentation to the 252/MF. Bit more top? Less sub bass. Noticeable with music that rolls bass off, such as Yello. The bass disappears before it did with the MF, or is it the pre section in the nait 50 rather than the 252?
Always difficult to know. Anyway, this will be my setup until I find a new power amp……
Lack of remote forces you to get up, or live with it. So far, not an issue.
