The Open - 2025

Familiar names up top to win. Tommy getting a Major would be fantastic, but this one feels like anyone can grab it. Any NI forum members have the inside track on the weather for the weekend?

Scottie Scheffler +470
Rory McIlroy +700
Jon Rahm +1200
Bryson DeChambeau +2000
Tommy Fleetwood +2000
Ludvig Aberg +2100
Shane Lowry +2100
Tyrrell Hatton +2300
Xander Schauffele +2400
Viktor Hovland +2600

Weather for the open is mixed .. it is NI done and said

Practice on Wednesday is all sun.
Then back to normal but no significant wind for all days
Thurs is light rain changing to thunder showers
Friday showers with light rain all day
Saturday is showers some heavy in morning, dry afternoon
Sunday light rain morning and showers afternoon

Lots of big names up top after day one. Mickelson most surprising. JT, Tommy, and Rory in the same group has been fun to watch. Particularly Tommy on fire to open the morning with three straight birdies.

Hope Scheffler doesn’t pull away. He’s like the Man City of golf (the last few seasons). Too good and just a little bit boring.

he looked completely dialled in yesterday - I though pre-round if he shot 68, he’d be a factor for the weekend. Did not expect him to go out and shot 64

I think that rain early afternoon really helped those groups that played late. Course softened up a bit and there was negligible wind. Really ideal scoring conditions.

Let’s hope some can keep the pressure on Scheffler and make the weekend interesting.

Rory on the charge!

Matty Fitz too

RORY!!! Wow!

Scotty just too good. Even Beemy said he was boring.

Scheffler is in a class of his own. His mid and short irons look like they’re on a frozen rope. He’s not known for his collapses, so down to the weather I think.

The only thing better than the golf was the weather. Final groups coming up 18 in the bright sunshine yesterday is something that I’m looking forward to today.

But agree - Scheffler just looks untouchable. Even better than the iron play has been the flat stick. Guy is making putts from all over the place.

Rory’s presser said it all - Scottie is going to be hard to catch today if he keeps playing like this.

Yes, the flat stick is as good as I’ve seen Scheffler wield it. Not wishing ill on anyone, but it would be good for us spectators if he were to drop a few shots early on!

Right? Just to keep it interesting  He can still win, but how about some drama.

You’d love to see Rory go out birdie, birdie, birdie like Tommy did on Friday. Get the crowd behind him and put some pressure on Scottie.

Have not turned on the coverage yet, as I’m out playing and not watching yet - but a check of the leaderboard is showing some big numbers out there - DeChambeau -5, Tommy and Phil -4 through 15ish holes. Is the weather / conditions that good??

We could see Scottie shoot 62 today based on that :grimacing:

well, this is going to be anti-climatic now isn’t it?

And just like that, we have another career Grand Slam contender. Congrats Scottie
