And perhaps the one that kicked it all off…
Stoned Jesus : Father Light is pretty decent as well. Was able to get a vinyl copy from my LRS so very happy.
One of those albums I listen to now and again, never gets old.
Or anything by the predecessor Kyuss, also fab.
I used to listen to this album a lot with my mates before heading off to the Union. Upon our return after a few Newcastle Brown Ales, we would continue with the listening session. The “garden” basement flat rivalled the scenes from the Young Ones for the grotty, chaotic scenes.
Fire Down Below - Low Desert Surf Club. (2023 - Bandcamp 44.1/24)
Fire Down Below (from Ghent, Belgium) are probably not that well known but they play an infectious groovy Stoner Rock, generally mid tempo or faster that just nicely rolls along and gets my foot tapping every time.
This one from 2023 gets a good few plays
Any of the Wishbone Ash live albums from the last decade. The great tracks of the ‘70s but live with better recordings and more cojones!
I hope no one is going to make the connection between Stoner rock and Progressive Rock.
Who wants to get stoned reminiscing about crystal castles and prince Rupert for 3 hours..?
Ah, it must be time for some Topergraphic Oceans! ![]()
Nooooooo……
YES
![]()
Sorry but there is no universe in which Wishbone Ash comes close to stoner rock ![]()
Spirit Caravan : Dreamwheel (1999 Meteorcity CDri)
Keeping this true to Stoner Rock here’s a groovy little EP from Spirit Caravan featuring the mighty Scott “Wino” Weinrich, who is the epitome of an underground Stoner Rock / Doom metal guitarist. He has been on countless influential and well received albums (see Saint Vitus, The Obsessed, Place Of Skulls, Hidden Hand) and yet probably isn’t known outside that circle.
Ah, have I misunderstood the definition? (I am an old buqqer, you know …brain cells are going).
Edit: quick goggle search….yes I’m totally “out to lunch” here….sorry for the intrusion. I’ll bugger off now and listen to some Black Sabbath instead!
Master of Reality will fit the bill very nicely!
Sabbath is definitely Stoner adjacent especially the Paranoid and Master Of Reality albums
It almost looks like something from Dune. Breathing apparatus and weapons on their backs. Very Cool!
Oh If the definition fits! I smoked a lot of weed listening to Wishbone Ash
Indeed ! An absolute demarcation !
