The Stoner Rock Thread

DoomCharts is one of my go-to pages (along with Outlaws Of The Sun and Stoner Hive). After their monthly round up posts I usually have a new set of albums to give a listen to. I have found many a gem through them. I am frequently amazed by how much new high quality stuff is released.

I’ll give these 5 a spin later today

So all played through.

Dust Giant - Loved the music although I found the vocals a bit “off’ in the mix. They have a new one out this year so I will follow up on that one.

Capacopter - really liked this. It reminds me of someone but I can’t quite put my finger on who. The vocals are bit Sword like but the music isn’t.

Khan - I have heard them before but hadn’t played in a while. Their varied stoner/psych/prog approach is great and musicianship first rate.

Planet Hunter - “Bitchin” is the only appropriate word for it - great stuff

Indica Blues - Another cracking good album.

It never ceases to amaze me how different bands can be under the “Stoner Rock/ Stoner metal” and how great some of them are. I can’t imagine many of them are making a decent living from their art but I do appreciate their efforts.

Bandcamp purchases will be incoming for a few of these.

Thanks for the post

Wild Fuzz Trip : Fuzz Transmissions 2026 (Bandcamp 24/48)

I came across this band from the recent Weedian “Best of Jan 2026” comp on Bandcamp and really like it.

The band come from Spain and ss the name would imply, they play fuzzy drenched stoner. No vocals on this one just some great grooving tunes. Well worth checking out IMO.

The whole catalogue of some 10 singles, and 4 EPS is up on Bandcamp. I can’t decide which ones to get, or wether just to go for all of them!

Glad you enjoyed them! Always a worry when you post up albums you’ve enjoyed that others might think they’re a bit pants  But then I enjoyed them and that’s really all that matters. If someone out there discovers and enjoys even one of the five bands that’s job done.

I check doomcharts.com occasionally rather than monthly, and there is a huge variety of stuff covered there.

New albums being highlighted to me tends to rely more on Tidal suggestions. Due to the wide variety of stuff we listen to, this is always going to miss lots as I think we confuse the algorithm (both for Daily Discovery and new album recommendations). I mean who else would spend a morning listening to bluegrass and an afternoon listening to death metal before SWMBO returns from work and puts on some show tunes!

Recently I have been leveraging AI to do some discovery for me. There have been threads where this has been decried, but I am finding that with the right AI prompt it can be highly effective and produces some gems I would otherwise miss (especially in niche genre). Each to their own.

Was having a poke about in 2024, found this absolute gem

I’ll stick it on in the morning @IainO

Always good to go back to the early roots of a genre.

Oldie but a goodie.
