Maybe a little esoteric but any The The fans out there. The latest album is very good.
Gary
Didn’t Pete Townsend almost join The The at the beginning before changing his mind?
Hi Gary,
Yep Im a fan. Saw them live around about the time of the Infected album.
I have only played the new once so far but it is really good and far better than I was expecting.
Prem.
Thanks for the heads up, Gary. I lost interest in The The after Dusk, but will give this one a listen
They are touring at the moment.
A friend went to a gig a few weeks ago at holmfirth, said it was very good.
They’ve bought tickets for another gig.
I haven’t listened to Mind Bomb in forever, time to give it a spin. Thanks for the reminder
Played the new one the other night and enjoyed it. Soul Mining brings back memories of my student years!
Yes great album, with a great sound. Now listening to Mind Bomb (1989) for the first time!
Got back from holiday this morning and I’m warming my system back up listening to this album…It’s rather good.
Thanks again Gary
You are welcome, I may even get it in vinyl as it’s really good!
The The’s Infected reminds me of the Summer of '87. I had a Summer holiday job couriering in the City for a law firm (Norton, Rose, Botterell & Roche). In those good old days you could still drive in and stash the car somewhere nearby without incurring any big parking fees or fines. On the cassette deck in the car was The The’s Infected. So imagine my surprise when one of the other couriers told me that Matt Johnson’s brother worked at the firm! I spent lunch breaks plotting how I might bump into him and then ask him for some gig tickets. Of course, after all that I never met him, although someone did tell me that I had passed him in one of the corridors while I was heaving around box after box of legal papers…
I need to dig out my The The vinyl LPs and give them a listen. It has been a while.
Soul Mining (1983) is an old favourite.
Playing “Uncertain Smile”, as I write…
Fantastic bit of “plinky plonk”. All seven minutes of it.
Courtesy of Jools Holland on piano.
Absolutely brilliant song @ratrat
Great album.
That’s a great track. The weather’s been a bit dodgy here the last few days, so it’s been a good opportunity to revisit some old The The favourites.
Matt Johnson’s voice is still in fine form on the latest album, as is his song writing.
Lyrically intelligent for sure.
Gary
Yes great band and the new album is very good.
Yesterday - Saturday - In town, looking at lots of stuff in the sales. We treated ourselves to some additional dining plates, to add to our existing collection. (Like you do, when the price is right).
Anyway, found myself in the record shop. “As you do”, if you know what I mean ( My lovely wife and best mate is very understanding. Happy to divert in to the record shop, which is a happy place for me. Enjoyable for her too).
Browsing through all the musical options and found this beauty - on CD - and couldn’t resist.
The The : Ensoulment (2024).
Was a big fan of Matt Johnson and The The - back in the day, 1980’s - bought vinyl records (albums shown in image above ) and also enjoyed live. Gary @Farthings-cat made us all aware of this new album - this post - remembered the recommendation and dived in…
Thanks Gary
Playing now, with a coffee and a happy disposition, this morning. After all, it’s the holidays.
Merry Christmas and happy Sunday listening everyone.

You are welcome, Soul Mining is a classic albeit an underrated one as they were a little esoteric back in the day.
Meaning? Sorry I don’t get that
Martin
I think Ratrat is referring to plates, i.e. dining plates. I could of course be wrong here, but that’s how it appears to me.
