? bit of a stretch there, they are DSD copies

Martin

The information from Michael Fremer’s Tracking Angle website is that they are "Sourced from the original analog master tapes and meticulously mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering "

The SACDs are mastered to DSD

I may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick but it’s a pity Leeds only seems to be one of those stupid 45rpm jobbies – I hate it when you have to flip sides in the middle of a long song. Otherwise I’d be in for that one!

The Acoustic Sounds website says “Mastered by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering from the original analog master tapes”

To be fair to Analogue Productions they have stated in the past where they have been unable to source an analogue master to work from, IIRC some of the Atlantic 75 series were sourced from digital masters.

I am tempted by Tommy and Who’s Next but I already have so many versions of both..!

For source I believe it is indeed all analogue utilising the Classic Records plates that they obtained through the sale of Classic Records a few years ago.

Analogue Productions is not Mobile Fidelity .

I do not have a good copy of Who’s Next, and all the used copies I’ve purchased over the years at record stores, etc., have been moved on after a couple of listens. I’ve had very good luck with AP issues, so I placed my bet and preordered a copy.

Looking forward to Pete’s book.

I’d be interested in Quadrophenia if they decide to do it. However, my two Steely Dan UHQR’s are very disappointing.

I have most of these already from the original Classic Records pressings. If they are using the same plates I doubt there will be much of a difference if any.

They are good though.

Out of curiosity how did they disappoint, I didn’t buy any of the SD releases but other UHQR vinyl I have is excellent, I just wonder what caused the disappointment.

Will definitely buy Who’s Next I have a Track 1971 press and the Half Speed but neither really sound how I remember it sounding on my parents Sony/Wharfedale system.

I have a Rega P8, Nait 3, Dynaudio 52 set up at the moment which the US 45rpm Rumours sounds incredibly good on so I have high hopes for this UHQR.

A 33.5 UHQR Quadrophenia would make me very happy and though I’d buy it if it was the only release I can’t see how this LP would work across 4 sides at 45rpm.

I thought that about the two Marley 45rpm AP’s but they sound phenomenally good and worth the annoying flipping every couple of tracks.

That’s good to hear. I was also worried they were going to split “My Generation” but it looks like they have managed to fit it all on one side.

Talk about flogging a dead horse. How many versions do we really need?

We need more good ones, innit.

These versions are very different and if you have good enough equipment to play them on they will sound much, much better than 99% of the other versions out there.
