Things I’ve done in the last 24 hours, version 2.0

Update, text this morning from Costco, offering numerous delivery dates, picked Wednesday. Told that we will get a text the evening before with an hour delivery slot, and a phone call an hour before to confirm. Good service.

If they’re as good as the John Lewis guys who delivered our new Bosch washing machine and tumble dryer then you’ll be fine. Have you ordered up “recycle old units” and “remove packaging”?

We got the texts the night before, and then updates on the day. Our guys were great!

I’m sure it will be good. We just needed to clear and clean everything in the meantime. Our reduced mobility has been rather difficult, so it’s a small price to have it installed.

Yeah, we’d had a leaking WM for a month or so. We’d moved both WM & TM out towards the garage a couple of days earlier, S. had cleaned up the floor, and I’d assembled the new IKEA units that would “surround” the new appliances. All the electrical sockets and plumbing was in place, so all went smoothly.

The Bosch are IoT enabled, so we are now constantly messaged by the WM & TM, the kitty feeders, the Roomba, and the bl00dy car!

In the US anyone over 65 is covered. What is the criteria in the UK to get covered by insurance for COVID shot?
Many of my friends are avoiding them now.

I love “life admin”.

Spent the day unravelling the many Delay Repay claims I’ve had to make since mid September from the many Passenger Assistance requests I’ve had to complain about covering some but not all of the sane journeys and trying to map this into one coherent document where I can easily (ho ho) see where each is up to.

Been going since 11am. Still not finished. Surrendering for the night.

Unless there are other “medical” criteria, then it’s the over 75’s who are covered by the NHS ( dunno about private insurance). Us old folks still get NHS flu jabs though. It’s curious that covid is apparently now seen as being less of an issue than influenza.

Anyway, as I mentioned earlier, I’m too young! :joy:

so… how much do they charge for a covid shot if you are not covered?

In UK private medical insurance doesn’t normally cover out-patient drugs/shots etc. So if you want a private vaccination, you have to pay for it. I haven’t seen any prices quoted for this round of Covid, but previously it has been around £100 for a private Covid shot. However they haven’t previously been readily available privately.

Thank you. Wow that’s a bit steep. I have heard that in the US it’s about 200USD/shot. Not cheap. It used to be free for all but that subsidy was stopped recently.

It appears that you can get them from the in-store pharmacy at our local Tesco for around ninety quid.

The UK has the NHS for most health care, which is free at the point of delivery; we pay for it through taxation. I am too young to get the vaccination for free, and I don’t have the right pre-existing conditions to get it despite having an increased risk due to my combination of health issues. This means for the first time I will be using a private medical service for my health care.

Driving back from St Andrews yesterday late afternoon our car came to an ‘Engine Error’ stop as we were leaving Leuchars. Nothing would coax it back into life. The dashboard was lit up and remained that way, even when the key was removed.

We contacted the RAC through the hideous online procedure at 15:40 to be told between 19:20 and 22:20 for someone to reach us. Zero communication and many hours later we phoned a tow truck. They couldn’t get the parking brake off and had major difficulty both collecting it and parking it. Home by 10 pm.

Another palaver and cost getting it picked up to go for diagnostics this morning.

On our way to see Wat Pho temple yesterday in Bangkok a tuktuk driver intercepted us coming out of the underground and told us there would be no point in going to the temple now because there was a mass on and it would be closed for an hour. During that hour we could do a tour of the floating markets with him.
A complete cøck and bull story which we fortunately saw through. We walked on to the temple and had no problem entering.

Today we were on our way to the Iconsiam shopping mall and at the ferry the supervisor told us the shopping centre was closed for another hour due to a royal family reception. During that hour we could go to the International Fashion Centre (Bangkok’s best kept secret). This time we agreed and ended up investing in made-to-measure vestments and being divested of several thousand Baht bucks. The tuktuk driver insisted we visit a jewelry shop as he gets commission so we obliged but left quickly and returned to the ferry pier. Needless to say the supervisor had sold us a complete cøck and bull story, the shopping centre had been open all day. But we‘re still happy customers as the tuktuk ride took us through back streets and hidden markets that we would never have seen on our own.

Right, re my posting a day or so back about Storm Amy having a strange knock-on electricity supply effect triggering multiple separately protected circuits in my house, I have now updated the firmware on the 11 AFDD-RCBO breakers in my consumer unit. It only took about a minute for each one, although a couple of them had to wait a minute or two for Hager’s database to confirm what update was available to them (in every case it was the same update, ultimately).

O/S wing now completely stripped of paint. Some pitting to deal with - going to be trying Deox gel and see how I get on.

Just in case your office issue isn’t resolved Amazon Prime offerings today are around £59.49 for 12 months single user and £73.49 for up to 6 users (potentially handy as you get 6GB of online storage overall with that). Other bundles available with AV suites you may or may not want.

Suspect there’ll be better offerings for ‘Black Friday’ but no guarantee.

Interesting stuff - I need to sort out a consumer unit.

Glow plug on a diesel? Maybe not, but what an annoyance.

Hope you enjoyed St Andrew’s - lovely place, visited earlier this year.

Should you remain stuck I could recommend an amazing brasserie in Dundee!
