Things I’ve done in the last 24 hours, version 2.0

One of the joys of low immunity. Out for lunch on Thursday with a friend/ex work colleague and I am in fine fettle. Arrange to get a train out of Manchester rather than a peak hour crowded bus and to be collected by Mrs. H.

Idiot in building site clothing and with a can in hand sits opposite me and starts to cough. No hand over mouth. No anything. Looks offended when I put a mask on. The only issue was I did so too late. Had a sore throat for 48 hours now and not enjoying it.

People are just so rude

Flew over England. What happened to pastures green?

Then flew into Ireland where it is greener…

This Tiger Moth settled on a mirror in our sitting room earlier. I’ve not seen one before and very lovely it is. A tricky customer to extract with a glass and a piece of paper.

I approached it tonight, Willie!

My 4th night on the booze this calendar year…

That’s a proper slab of slate impacted into the Earth.

We come from the Earth and we return to the Earth

My eldest daughter, aged 19, is working for a year in the Royce Hotel in Melbourne, Australia.

So named because it was once the first major car showroom of Melbourne selling among other things Rolls-Royces.

The photo makes it appear that Mothra has just popped by for a visit.

Out and about over the weekend and spotted this menu in a local fish and chip shop. Intrigued as to whether the mini baby bels are battered and deep fried with their red wax coats on or off. I guess there is only one way to find out.

Enjoyed this view last night with a glass of wine.

Coupla days at WOMAD commuting from a cottage rather than camping. Typical eclectic mix of music from ganavya (beautiful south Asian classical singing) to Say She She (fun Chic adjacent disco/funk).

As ever the best things were the unexpected. Among several such, ambling to the bar came across a Roma/Rumanian outfit with two female singers, rhythm section, accordion and cronky sax who brought the house down.

More spoken word than I recall from previous festivals including one stage where a succession of women seemed to be haranguing the audience. Get enough of that at home so passed.

Do you have many conversations with visitors about the elephants in the room… the DBL’s?

Yes, those big beasts are quite a bit heftier than Nellie.

But Nellie is silent and nimble.

I picked her up, literally and metaphorically, in Connaught Square in Delhi in 1986 on the way back from my first Himalayan adventure.

Had my first wild blackberry of the season.

Not very big, or particularly sweet, but it’s a start.

Willy.

Those Batter Specials clogged my arteries up just reading them.
