You’ll now have the leccy car owners telling you how cheap their £50,000 car is to run. ![]()

It was a very good day.
£1.98 in Derbyshire yesterday
I went to the recycling centre in Ashford today. I usually go to the one in Tunbridge Wells but they are currently unable to take any motor oil, so Ashford is the next closest. I’d never been before but assumed that once I found myself at the industrial estate it would be well signposted…
How wrong I was! There was a large sign on the main road to indicate which turn road to take to the IE, but after that, nothing. I drove around and around until I had to ask instructions for how to find it. It was down a small lane that was signposted for everything but the Recycling centre. Only when you actually arrived outside the entrance was it signposted as to what the facility was. Suddenly it dawned on me why we seem to have such a dreadful fly tipping problem around the Ashford area - nobody can find the Recycling centre!
We have an excellent recycling centre near us but it does not stop fly tipping. I think businesses have to pay to use it. I hate seeing it.
I believe there is also a national problem with recycling fridges, our council is no longer collecting or accepting them. As a result there are fridges and freezers being dumped in the hedges and lanes around us in Worcestershire. Very annoying.
I had my haircut yesterday. I try to have it cut when we are away in the Canary Islands. I have found a lady who cuts well and they are a fraction of uk prices.
Yesterday she used a dryer to blow it all straight backwards even though it is not that long.
When I got back I could see my wife staring at it and grinning a little. I said I think it looks a bit Richard E Grant. She said, no it doesn’t, it looks more Chris Packham. I immediately washed it and back to normal. No offence to CP.
I haven’t been there for a while. My dump of choice is New Romney spacious and nice staff.
I reckon they would even turn a blind eye to you taking nuclear waste.
I have been doing a lot of decluttering - and I don’t have a car so I have relied on a man with a van, he tells me he takes it to a commercial recycling centre.
One business “*** with a van” was recently fined for fly tipping . At the end of the month I am having a declutter in the garden and some roses are going - my gardeners will also have to pay .
Surely material from domestic recycling should be recyclable at a council site , though in fairness to our council since a fatal accident at a recycling centre you have a half hour pre- booked period in which to visit the centre.
Not good for a commercial operator
That’s probably what they get frequently in New Romney……
My 11 year old granddaughter has just been excepted in to a sports academy high school. Apart from playing football she’ll learn how to manage coach and sports administration. She’d already qualified but filled in in an under 14 year old game and scored her teams only 3 goals. They defeated the 2nd place team (in the comp) by 3 nil. We may have a another Sam Kerr in a few years.
I’ve just had notification that our Daikin air to air conditioning units have arrived and our install will happen on the 13th Oct. We are having a mini-split that will cool (or heat) our sitting room, our day/dining room and our bedroom. So a period of making way for the workmen to do the install commences tomorrow.
Exciting times. Keep us posted as it all settles in.
So, yesterday, in a significant uptick in my cultural life I went to see this with a friend before Death By Tacos, which really ought to be a band name, and 6 hours in the pub with school friends.
A weird mix of 10 hours of soundtrack (we didn’t stay to find out) and about 20 minutes of exhibition, albeit an unforgettable 20 minutes. Strongly recommended for many WTAF moments.
The most extraordinary and rather sad part was seeing the museum itself.
As a child there can be few in North East Wales and Cheshire who didn’t go on a visit there with school and parents to see Roman exhibits which went on for miles and were presented in the most boring manner imaginable. A true and very long rite of passage. The Roman collections compared very favourably with those in the capital.
Not any more. A museum that is but an indistinct shadow of its former self. After a brunch with family later today I’ll be reading up on what the heck happened.
Our pub visit was as magnificently bonkers as ever. A teacher friend trying recommend the video of the Bohemian Rhapsody flash mob in Paris but who insisted it was a flash dance. A catch up on recent group travels to Canada, Japan, New Zealand and Germany.
Still laughing at the moment my friend Cat realised they were in a gay bar i.e. when the whole place started foot stomping and 2 blokes in hot pants started dancing on the bar to… Rock N Roll Pt 2 by Gary Glitter. Pricelessly caught on video.
“This is just wrong.”![]()
The first album might have been more appropriate….
Switching supplier and arranging a fix of my LPG contract for 2 years at 0.1p/L above the current (good) rate. In the current environment - result !
