Tidal buffering / stuttering - only in the evening

I use Tidal practically everyday in the evening across several clients.. and have experienced no issues at all, so clearly not a generalised Tidal issue. My ISP is BT annd use their modem router for my FTTC. Also looked at the down detectors recently for Tidal streaming and noticed no increase or issues. But have not looked in the last 48 hours.

No issue at all with ipv6 with my ISP and router, which I would always recommend now for streaming.. ipv4 will often now be asking for performance challenges with streaming.

just checked down detector.. no generalised issues reported for Tidal streaming (not to say there is not the odd issue scattered about)

Same for me as well. Did the exact same thing on Friday night as well with friends over again. About 9:30pm CET and started buffering around 5 seconds in. Deutsch Telekom ISP, Vodafone Station AP, Netgear Orbi Router. 200mpbs DL, 75mbps upload. Tried Spotify - no issues. Qobuz - no issues.

I just googled ‘Tidal Germany buffering in the evening.’ Blam. Lots of hits from people having the same problem. Slow local Tidal servers apparently plus ISPs with peak-time limits. Some suggesting a DL of a no-buffering plugin or other nonsense.

Maybe it’s time to ditch Tidal and live with Spotify and the NAS rips.

It’s such a shame. Try Qobuz if you can. Spotify Lossless should be good but of course they pay the artists far less.

Hello

I experience the same problems with tidal.

Simon suggested that I log into my streamers home page and here i can see how it fails to start buffering on some songs. Really strange.

All wired, 1 gig speed, no problems until recently.

Try the streamer home page and go to diagnostic pane. Buffering shows at bottom

Any tips very welcome. I only know the problem

Lars

As I said on the other thread, the problems might be appearing because your ISP is not supporting ipv6. CDNs as used by video and audio streaming are increasingly optimised for ipv6.

You can try and set your streamer to ipv4 only to see if there is an improvement.. but you might find the issue is with the limitations of your ISP.

if you have a smartphone check to see if your mobile provider assigns an ipv6.. most do now. If so create a hot spot using 4G or 5G and have your streamer wifi connect to it .. if everything is now fine, the problem is likely with your ISP or router.

many thanks Simon! Will try to run with ipv4 only and see how it goes. Not sure why my isp does not offer ipv6 on hfc/coax.

I generally dont experience problems on 5G.

I’m a 1st gen streamer guy, so it’s either Tidal or Spotify for me on the Naim gear. Have tried the mconnect workaround w Qobuz and it’s not my fave.

Just experiencing this issue for the first time today. I have an ND5-XS.

Probably the app - not the Tidal service, or the internet service, since it plays fine on my iPad connected via Bluetooth, on my phone (also connected via wifi).

Me too! I’ve tried logging out and back in to Tidal, which worked for me bit….back to stuttering after a few tracks🫣 all my Naim devices are wired Ethernet.
