To level a Rega Planar 10

Hello, I have a question for the Rega Planar 10 owners. I’m thinking about buying one, but I noticed that the feet aren’t adjustable, so how do you get it to balance.

I have a Rega Planar 8. It’s feet are not adjustable either.

The Planar 8 sits on an IKEA Lack table. A spirit level confirmed that the table slopes to the front. Two drinks coasters under the front two legs solved it. The turntable is now level.

You need to level the surface the deck sits on rather than the deck itself.

Since the rack is quite heavy and well filled with Naim stuff, it will not be possible to level the rack so that a spirit level is correct. Can you put something under the feet of the Regas?

My quadaspire upstairs is level but downstairs, with a similiarly heavy stand, I’ve created thin circle slices of hard rubber that I use to level the P9. Seems to work well.

I think there are also levelling “feet” one can buy.

Naim recommend that their equipment should in any case be levelled, so if your rack isn’t, maybe now is a good time to correct it.
If the turntable still isn’t level when placed on a level rack, just use spacers to correct it. I would use metal shims so that there is no chance of them compressing.

I have a Planar 3 and added Michael Lim’s adjustable aluminum footers, into which the stock rubber feet can be inserted. This lets me level the deck while keeping the original Rega-optimized feet, and it seems slightly more sophisticated (though probably no more effective) than sliding a few drink coasters or playing cards under the rear foot.

I think my rack is leveled perfect for the Naim stuff, but not for a turntable.
Michael Lim’s adjustable aluminum footers sounds good, do you have a link?

Links not allowed, Google it.

I would use a PLANAR 8/10/NAIA WALL BRACKET as it provides complete isolation. The wall bracket is designed to hang off the wall for best turntable performance. Once set up it is very easy to level. Good luck.

You can get adjustable isolation plinths for hifi which are basically a single shelf with adjustable feet. Knowing that Rega have probably engineered the 10 “properly” in terms of isolation and stability, I’d opt for a simpler plinth that was effectively laminated MDF or HDF with the most basic adjustable feet possible. You don’t want to break the Rega spell by going for something over engineered in my opinion.

My dealer has loads and when I googled “Adjustable Isolation Plinth” the options were vast.

I used old business cards for years until I moved my Fraim stack and got it right.

…better to use your current credit card…much safer…

I’ve ordered 1.5”, thin paper disks from Amazon and stack until level. Doesn’t need much if the rack is level, but usually a slight adjustment.

Thank you, for the great input you gave me.
