Tony Banks

Listening to Tony Banks on Test Match Special promted me to listen to some of his classical music. Pleasant for a Sunday morning.

Oh, that gave me a fright….I read the title and thought….Oh God, another one gone.
But thankfully not!

Saw him a couple of times in the early ‘70s with some band he was in at that time.

His solo album “A Curious Feeling” is well worth a listen.
Well supported by Kim Beacon’s vocals and Chester Thompson’s percussion.

I agree - must listen later

Yes, same here. I remember ‘A Curious Feeling’ coming out on vinyl in 1979 but didn’t hear it or buy it then, even though I was into Genesis. Probably because I had just left school and lost contact with my Genesis fan friends. Eventually bought it on CD around 2009 and didn’t give it enough time then either. Must put that right, only 45 years late!

Forgive me but did you remember exactly where/when did you saw GENESIS in concert in early Seventies ? Thanks

Once at the Manchester Hardrock, and I think the other time was at the Free Trade Hall or perhaps the Palace Theatre. Would have been between September 1972 and June 1975 during “uni term time”.

So possibles (according to the internet) are

HR: 2 November 1972
FTH: 24 February 1973
PAL: 28 April 1975

The Hardrock is a definite, I remember the support was a very fine Chilean folk band (with “Pan pipes”), which I enjoyed but didn’t go down that well.

I certainly went to another one in Manchester - possibly both, but I may have decided to skip the 1973 gig, having seen them just a few months earlier.

Interesting thread. I did purchase the TB album ‘A Curious Feeling’ on vinyl release/issue, which I still have.

Went thru’ a phase of being heavily into Genesis, some early stuff and particularly around the ‘Then There Were Three’ time. More balanced view now, but still enjoy spinning a few albums.

Saw Genesis a number of times, NEC twice, two different girlfriends Sunday 20th December 1981 with one and Wednesday 23rd with another, the latter with whom I remain friends, after all this time!
Once or twice at Knebworth with different friends.

Back in 2007, I concluded a very long period with a client in France, involving around a week a month. My very last night based in Paris before heading home for the final time, was Genesis with their ‘Turn It On Again: The Tour’ at Parc Des Princes Saturday 30th June 2007.
Just to cement no longer travelling from blighty, up to Old Trafford the following Saturday for another performance.
Consecutive Saturdays, sat almost opposite side of the stage; still remember the two evenings!

Does it count I was coming back from Malaga, Spain and Mike Rutherford was on the plane. I gave him the nod so that he knew that I knew that he knew I knew who he was.
