Tour de France 2021 (warning may contain spoilers)

Indeed, they burn up to 8000 calories per day! That’s 3-4 times what normal people do. For 21 consecutive days, including terrible heat, storms, rain, you name it. It’s an almost superhuman feat for sure.

They get Mondays off though after the first week.

It’s not like for like though, and training for one doesn’t equate to ‘you should be able to do the other then’.

Agreed, footballers have a different type / level of fitness, like swimmers do with muscles / lungs etc. However, cyclists don’t have the option of standing around / stopping at any point of their sport! My post was more about the commentators words.

Stage 4 - Redon to Fougères, 150.4km**

Flat and shorter distance today. The wind and direction on the few unsheltered roads may cause some peloton issues but it should be okay. Another day for the sprinters, the GC guys will be hoping for an easy recovery type ride and to save it for tomorrow’s time trial.

7 abandonments so far:

EWAN Caleb - DNF Stage 3
GESINK Robert - DNF Stage 3
HAIG Jack - DNF Stage 3
SOLER Marc - DNS - Stage 2
SÜTTERLIN Jasha - DNF Stage 1
KONOVALOVAS Ignatas - DNF Stage 1
LEMOINE Cyril DNF Stage 1

177 riders on todays start line.

The riders had a stand still for a while to protest after yesterday’s crash-filled stage. The CPA rider’s association has released a statement before the stage start noting that riders have requested discussions with the UCI and race stakeholders in order to improve rider safety.

Incredible… he’s such a great rider, never thought I’d see a return of TDF stage wins with Cav but wow… he looks like he has the hunger this year! Really hope he wins 3-4 more… he truly deserves it!

Stage 5 - Changé to Laval, 27.2km (ITT)

Yesterday resulted in no change to the top GC, but this time trial should shake it up a bit.

Anyone want to make any predictions who will win?

I’m wondering if Mathieu van der Poel will surprise everyone again (?)
He also has the maillot jaune to defend.

A light rain shower is falling on the course :sun_behind_rain_cloud:
but will it be enough to hinder the later starters (?)

Ladies and gentlemen…

It seems he did! Good performance by Van der Poel. :+1:

Pogacar obviously in a different league…

Pogacar indeed impressive although several of his likely challengers are pretty bashed about.

Thursday 1st July 2021:

Stage 6 - Tours to Chateuxroux, 160.6km

A fairly short flat ride to end in some more sprint finish action.

Shouldn’t think the GC guys will be very adventurous today, with tomorrow’s 250km hilly, (the longest distance of any Tour stage in 21 years) and just before the weekends back to back mountain stages.
